  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Chipped paint all over the classroom, exposing the drywall posing as a hazard for the children - Fridge handle is broken - Faucet handle in the bathrooms are broken - Sleep mat in a child's crib is ripped exposing the foam underneath. This mat can no longer be cleaned and disinfected effectively. - Toilet paper holder in the bathroom is broken - High touch areas in the children's bathroom and nap room (i.e. door, door handles, and casing around the door) are covered in dirty fingerprints.

    Corrective action. Ensure the facility is clean and in good repair

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - A 6ft ladder stored in the children's bathroom which is accessible to the children

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Garbage bins used in the bathrooms have no lids - Single use paper towels are not easily accessible to the children to dry their hands

    Corrective action. - Ensure all garbages have a lid to prevent children from accessing/touching any soiled diapers, gloves, used tissues etc. - Ensure there is a proper system for handwashing

    Observation. There is a small window with a safety bar that is loose and not covering the window from edge to edge so the ends can cause injury to a child

    Corrective action. Ensure the facility is safe at all times and equipment is properly secured

    Observation. One staff and the Manager confirmed that there were some days in a 2-3 week period when an ECE staff was left alone at the end of the day with one child for 5-30 minutes.

    Corrective action. Ensure to be in compliance with Schedule E at all times; and Infant/toddler staff has to be present at all times for the service type this facility is licensed for.

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. There is a small blue couch that needs to be removed as it is torn and the tape on it is coming off.

    Corrective action. Ensure furniture is in good repair and can be sanitized effectively.

    Corrective action. Ensure to foster good hygience practies at all times including when children are sleeping; this is especially important during this pandemic.

    Observation. A child who was sleeping had a sippy cup laying next to her in the crib; staff stated this was becuase the child drank milk before sleeping. This is a hazardous practice and should not occur.

    Corrective action. Ensure children are supervised while consuming food or drink.

    Observation. At the time of the inspection there were 4 children in care with an ECE Assistant staff.

    Corrective action. Ensure there is appropriate staff in place with the correct qualifications as listed in Schedule E. In this case, an Infant/Toddler staff needs to be present at all times.
