• RECORDS AND REPORTING

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

  Observation. 4 children files were reviewed; 1 child's was missing medical practitioner's contact information, and another child was missing emergency contact information.

  Corrective action. Ensure all children's records are complete.

• STAFFING

  The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

  Observation. Licensing noted two persons who are ordinarily present on the premise. One individual has a RCMP check, however the other individual does not have a current and valid criminal record check.

  Corrective action. Ensure persons over the age of 12 who are ordinarily present on the premise has a current and valid criminal record check through the Criminal Record Review Program.

• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation) Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A selection of staff files were reviewed. Out of the 2 reviewed, 1 file did not contain a validation from the ECE Registry.

  Corrective action. Ensure staff who hold an assistant or educator certificate have their certificate validated through the ECE Registry.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

  Observation. Licensing observed on some days there was no indication whether a child is absent or present.

  Corrective action. Ensure a record showing daily attendance, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

  Observation. During the follow-up inspection, licensing measured the water temperature at the bathroom sink and it measured 52.1 degrees Celsius.

  Corrective action. Please ensure the heated water that is accessible to children is heated to no more than 49 degrees Celsius.

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. Licensing observed the following: - An emergency inhaler required as part of a child's care plan was expired. -Chipped paint throughout the main play room at child height.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided for the children at all times.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the facility's log book had no entries.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a log is kept of minor incidents, accidents, illnesses and unexpected events. The intent of log book was discussed with the Licensee.
