    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. - In the infant toddler room, a portable music system electrical cord was within children’s reach. Staff corrected this during the inspection. - Three unused stackable highchairs and one stroller were observed stored in the 3–5 bathroom.

    Corrective action. Manager said items stored in the 3-5 bathroom will be removed by this weekend.

    Observation. Multiple photos of children from the 30 months to school age program were not current as they were taken when the children were toddlers.

    Corrective action. The Manager said she obtain current photos.

    Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing observed the following: -Outlets exposed to children in the Infant and Toddler program. -Items with DIN # accessible to children in the bathroom. -Cleaning products accessible to children in the bathroom. The Manager explained that extra outlet covers are available and that there is typically a system in place to store cleaning products that are inaccessible to children.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Licensing provided education on having complete records of all children before the start of their enrollment.

    Observation. In the Infant and Toddler program the hot water in the washroom and the sink in the kitchen area used for children’s handwashing measured at 59.3 Celsius.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. In the Infant and Toddler program Licensing observed following were accessible to children: ·Two containers with cleaning solutions and plastic bags were stored in the kitchen cabinets at child height. This is a repeat contravention from routine inspection # KFIH-B74PUE dated December 3, 2018. ·In the bathroom four containers of diaper crème were stored beside the diaper change pad and an opened box with latex gloves was stored on the lowest shelf of the diaper change table. Licensee Contact corrected this during inspection. ·In the play area one electric outlet cover was uncovered and loose electric Christmas light were accessible to children. Licensee Contact corrected this during inspection.

    Corrective action. A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. In the Group Child Care (30 months –School age) Licensing observed some areas of the drywall were exposed. Licensee Contact stated that they are aware of this and are planning to have this area painted.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. In the Infant and toddler program Licensing observed a tall shelving unit is not secured to the wall. Licensee Contact was aware that this shelf is not secured. Licensing expressed concerns of the potential for this piece of furniture to fall on children during an earthquake.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inpsection Licensing observed staff and the child went into the kitchen area directly after the diapering routine without washing their hands. Licensing officer asked the staff and the child’s hands to be washed.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the infant and toddler program Licensing observed a child walking around and playing with toys while eating food held in their right hand. Licensing explained to the Licensee Contact that this was not a healthy eating habit as it was difficult to supervise the child and it puts the child at a greater risk of choking Staff placed the child at the table to finish their lunch.

    Corrective action. Ensure to promote healthy eating habits with children at all times.

    A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed children in the Group Child Care (30 months –School age) having lunch unsupervised. Licensee Contact was unaware that the children were unsupervised and that the staff had gone to use the washroom. Licensing discussed the need to supervise children at all times with the Licensee Contact

    Observation. Upon reviewing the emergency preparedness kit Licensing observed that there were not sufficient supplies for all the children. Some of the food items were expired.Licensee Contact stated that they are aware of this.This is a repeat contravention from routine inspection # KFIH-B74PUE dated December 3, 2018.

    Corrective action. Please ensure there is sufficient food, water and emergency supplies, in the event of an emergency, for each person on site, for 72 hours.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed fourteen children files, one child was missing was missing doctor information. Licensing discussed acceptable practice of inputting a local walk in clinic information the family may attend.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed four staff files and observed four staff certificates were not validated through the Early Childhood Educator Registry. Licensee Contact was not aware that certificates need to be validated. Licensing provided education on validating certificates. This is a repeat contravention from routine inspection # KFIH-B74PUE dated December 3, 2018 and routine inspection # SVAA-BHWPTV dated November 14, 2019.

    Corrective action. Ensure staff files are current and complete at all times.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the facility has not had a Manager since December 2020. Licensee Contact informed Licensing that they would apply to be the Manager of the facility. Licensing emailed them the application.

    Corrective action. Licensee must ensure there is replacement of staff within 30 days of the date the employee ceases employment.
