Observation. There were 2 nail heads protruding from a fence at the children's level, in an area where children play.
Corrective action. The Licensee said she will address this.

Observation. There was no record of last years emergency evacuation drill.
Corrective action. Please ensure a system to keep record of emergency evacuation drills.

Observation. Upon inspection of the outdoor play area, Licensing observed missing wooden fence panels. The Manager explained that some of the wooden fence panels were recently replaced.
Corrective action. Please ensure that the community care facility is in good repair.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing observed the following: -Exposed gyrock throughout the facility accessible to children. -Paper towel holder located in the bathroom was not sturdy, posing a fall hazard.
Corrective action. Please ensure the facility, and the furniture, equipment and fixtures are clean and in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Upon inspection, Licensing observed the following: -The fridge temperate measured at 9.4 degrees Celsius. -Hose located on the ground of the outdoor play area, posing a tripping hazard. There is a system in place to have this stored away from children, but was not being used. -Tree branches located on the ground at the back of the outdoor play area accessible to children. The Manager said she is in the process of cleaning the backyard and that during outdoor time, the children are currently going on walks.
Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation. Upon inspection, there was no care plan available for a child requiring extra support. The Manager said this is the child's second day in care, and this information is still being obtained.
Corrective action. Please ensure each child requiring extra support has a care plan.

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation. Upon inspection, the hot water temperature was measured at 71.4 degrees Celsius in the children's washroom.
Corrective action. Please ensure the water temperature does not exceed 49 degrees Celsius.
11230 - CCLR s.47 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation. Upon inspection, the backyard enclosure had loose fence panels that pulled away from the fence and the 6 foot panels could sway within a 2 foot radias when pushed which poses a fall hazard.Photographs were taken.
Corrective action. Please ensure the fencing around the perimeter of the yard is secure and free of harm.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Upon inspection of the backyard, there was a pile of random items such as a metal ladder; grass fertalizer;tools that were accessible to the children though separated by pliable plastic fencing. The plastic fencing had areas in which children could access the items.Photographs were taken.
Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to their health.

Observation. Upon review of 5 children's files, 2 files did not have start dates recorded.This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective action. Please ensure children's files are complete.

Observation. An area of the backyard is used to store gardening equipment. This area is accessible to children.
Corrective action. Please make sure children do not have access to this area. The Licensing Officer discussed using landscape fencing that is at the facility and not currently being used.

A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The fridge temperature was 12c.
Corrective action. To ensure safe storage of food please make sure the fridge temperature is between 0-4c. The manager turned the fridge temperature down during this inspection.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The cover on the fluorescent light in the main play room is missing exposing the light tubes. CCFL is concerned the light tubes may come loose and fall on the children. A rug in front of the cubbies is worn and poses a tripping hazard.
Corrective action. Please ensure the light tubes are not exposed and that any rugs in the facility do not pose a tripping hazard.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): CCFL observed a child having a diaper change. The change pad was not sanitized and the child did not have their hands washed after the diaper change.
Corrective action. The Licensee stated she will wash children's hands after a diaper change and sanitize the change pad after each use.
