- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.
Observation. Staff did not have first aid kit during outdoor play. Licensee said that staff typically take first aid kit with them but forgot to bring them out today.
Corrective action. Licensee said staff will be reminded to take first aid kits with them for outdoor play.
11220 - CCLR s.23(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. In the infant and toddler room, items like wooden puzzles, blocks, and books are kept on higher open shelves, which poses a risk of falling during an earthquake.
Corrective action. Licensee said these items will be removed from the high shelves and stored in cabinets with doors.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): One child’s file was missing the date of enrolment. Licensee added the date to the file.
Corrective action. Licensee said children’s files will be reviewed to ensure they are complete.
19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. One staff file was missing a Criminal Record Check Clearance letter and another staff member’s valid CRC was addressed to a different organization.
Corrective action. Licensee said staff CRC applications will be submitted through the Criminal Record Check online portal.

A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation. Facility has not practiced an annual emergency drill since it began operating.
Corrective action. Licensee said emergency drill will be practiced this month.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Multiple playpens had holes of various sizes in the mesh.
Corrective action. Please ensure that equipment used by the children are in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE
A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation. In the under 36 months program, a child's lunchbox was left open for about an hour and there was food inside such as cheese and fruits.
Corrective action. Please ensurse that staff practice the rules of health and hygiene.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation. Licensing reviewed 4 staff files and one staff was missing a record of their immunization status.
Corrective action. The Director said that she will obtain a copy from the staff.
