    Observation. -There were hazardous items found accessible to children in the washroom that indicate "Keep out of children's reach". These items were made inaccessible to children during the inspection. -There were items such as nails, string lights and other adult tools stored on the deck that is used by children to access the outdoor play space. These items may pose a potential risk of injuries to children. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

    Observation. Upon reviewing facility records, Criminal Record Check clearance letters for the Licensee and for an adult who is ordinarily present at the facility, were found expired. This must be addressed immediately as valid criminal record checks must be available at all times.

    Observation. A large piece of plywood was unsecured and leaning against a building in the outdoor playspace. This could pose a risk to children if it were to fall over. This item was moved during the inspection.

    Observation. -Licensing observed children playing in both the playroom and the living room at the same time without direct adult supervision.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

    Observation. - The door to the sleeping room has a large broken section at the base. There are jagged splinters of wood exposed which pose a potential risk for injury to children. - Large wooden boards were leaning against the wall in the hallway and behind the door in the sleeping room, which potentially pose a risk to children. These items were removed during the inspection. - Children were observed playing with a large piece of broken Duplo. The piece had sharp/jagged edges and was unsafe for children. This was discarded during the inspection. - Some hazardous household items indicating they be kept out of reach of children were accessible to children. These items were moved during the inspection and are no longer accessible. - An unsteady plastic rolling shelf is located in the eating area. Heavy items stored on top may pose a risk if the shelf were to be knocked, or fall over. - A large picture frame with sharp edges and small metal detachable clips was stored leaning next to a crib in the sleep area. This was removed during the inspection. - A crib in the sleep area is set up beside a closet. The knobs on the closet appear loose and could pose a choking hazard. - A large storage bin is located right next to the base of the outdoor slide and poses a safety risk. The Director of Licensing Standards of Practice - Safe Play Spaces recommends a minimum of 6 feet around the equipment to allow adequate space for children to enter and exit the equipment safely.

    Observation. Licensee does not have a record of persons that has been given the repayment statement.

  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

    Observation. Licensee's first aid and CPR certificate has expired.

  • C5.1 - Are healthy eating and nutritional habits promoted and practiced?Non-critical

    Observation. Licensee provides two snacks and one meal per day. Licensee indicates parents are told verbally at pick up what food has been served each day. There is no evidence to indicate that families have been given information regarding food and drink provided to children.

    Observation. There is no record of the annual emergency plan being practiced in 2019. There is no written statement setting out the terms and conditions of repayment for any payments taken in advance of services being provided. As per the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice - Active Play, a written Active Play/Screen time policy is required to be in place and provided to parents.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

    Observation. The "emergency cards" used to identify children in an emergency were not able to be located at the time of the inspection. There were no daily, monthly, or annual inspection logs being completed for the outdoor play spaces.

  • C6.1 - Are acceptable hygiene practices maintained?Non-critical

    Observation. Soiled items such as diapers are being placed into an open plastic bag and discarded at the end of the day.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

    Observation. The high chair in the kitchen was ripped exposing the foam padding in the seat and making it difficult to adequately clean. The Licensee stated that it was not being used and showed the Licensing Officer the replacement chair that would be used from this point. Individual dishwasher tablets were being stored in a screw top glass container under the sink, making them accessible to children. These were removed during the inspection.
