Kids & Company Cambie - Group Child Care (30 Months to School Age)

Emergency exits and fire drill system are approved by a local Fire Marshal. [CCLR Sec. 22(1)(a)]

Observation. The fire extinguishers have not been serviced since February 2023.

The licensee has written, parental consent to release a child to someone other than the parent. [CCLR Sec. 57(3)(b)]

Observation. Three children in care did not have written parental consent to release the child to someone other than the parent.

The medications are not readily accessible to employees. [CCLR Sec. 53(1)(b)]

Observation. Licensing observed that EpiPen's for two children were stored in a first aid bag, which was taken outside by an educator with one group of children. However, the two children who required the medication remained indoors, making the EpiPen's not readily accessible to them. Licensing discussed with staff the importance of keeping life-saving medication immediately accessible to the children who need it. Staff stated that additional EpiPen's are kept both in the office and in the first aid bag. Licensing observed that two EpiPen's for one child were stored in the same first aid bag.

The licensee does not keep a current care plan for each child requiring extra support. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)]

Observation. Licensing observed that a child in the program was prescribed an EpiPen but noted that no care plan was available for the child. When inquiring with staff about the child's allergies, some staff members were unsure of what the child was allergic to.

The licensee keeps current records of each employee as required under Sec. 19(1). [CCLR Sec.56(b)]

Observation. Licensing observed one staff file to be incomplete. Missing documents included: -Immunization record -Record of work history -References -First aid certificate
