  The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

  Observation. Licensing observed that one lock on the sliding closet door in the nap room was broken, leaving the door unsecured.

  A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

  Observation. The program added added a new soft surface and new turf to the outdoor play area. The soft surface was taped down to the pavers with painters tape. The tape was loose on one side. A discussion was held that the painters tape is not a suitable long term adhesive that can withstand the elements. The turf was loosely placed on top of the soft surface and not secured. This is a tripping hazard, especially in wet weather.

  Observation. Licensing observed that the sliding doors to a closet in the children's nap room were unsecured. The doors had previously been secured, but a latch appeared to have recently broken off, posing a risk of injury. Licensing observed that the turf previously installed in the outdoor play area has become worn and loose, posing as a tripping hazard. This issue was discussed with the program's Manager. Licensing explained that since the entire area has a hard surface and considering the age group, completely removing the turf (or any soft surface) would not be recommended. Some children may crawl or transition between walking and crawling, and a hard surface can be harsh on their knees and hands. The Manager outlined various potential solutions and expressed a desire to further discuss a plan with the team to determine the best approach for the area.

  All persons over the age of 12 that are ordinarily present on the premises while children are present are of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for each person. [CCLR Sec 20]

  Observation. Licensing observed that one staff member had a criminal record check processed through the RCMP. However, Community Care Facilities Licensing only accepts criminal record checks processed through the Criminal Records Review Program.
