A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. There is a flag pole within the outdoor play space, the rope of the flag pole is looped at the bottom and is accessible to children in care. Can be a choking hazard.
Corrective action. Please ensure the rope is inaccessible to the children in care immediately and provide a plan as to how it will remain inaccessible by October 1, 2024
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. Various pieces of equipment within the outdoor play space that has started to peel paint: one yellow picnic table, roof of play house. -Loose board within the play house.
Corrective action. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the contravention noted above on or before October 1, 2024

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed that there isn't sufficient resilient surfacing under a plastic climber and slide. The grass is burnt and there are two holes in the dirt where the slide is positioned. Licensing provided education on what is considered sufficient resilient surfacing. Licensing provided only as a suggestion moving the climber and slide to the area that has wood chips as that is considered sufficient resilient surfacing.
Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - LICENSING
A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility the certificate, or a copy of the certificate, of any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility.
Observation. Licensing observed that one staff's certificate is not posted anywhere within the facility. Licensing provided education that any educator or assistant employed to work in the community care facility must have their certificate or a copy of their certificate displayed in a prominent place within the community care facility.
Corrective action. Ensure that all staff's certificate or a copy of their certificate are displayed in prominent place within the community care facility
10070 - CCLR s.11(4) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. Upon a review of the on wheels emergency bin, Licensing observed that all the water has expired and there isn't sufficient supplies in the bin for the maximum number of children and staff. Licensing provided education on ensuring that there is enough supplies for everyone in the community care facility to last for 72 hours. Additionally, Licensing suggested having a system in place to ensure that the emergency supplies are maintained.
Corrective action. Ensure that an emergency plan is in place that sets our procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - STAFFING
Despite this section, licensee may employ a person as a volunteer who does not provide care to children or supervise children if the licensee or the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. Upon a review of one volunteer's file, Licensing observed that there was no evidence that the character references listed have been verified. Licensing provided education on what would meet the intent of the legislation.
Corrective action. Ensure that volunteer files are complete.

Observation. Upon a review of three staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's immunization status was not obtained.
Corrective action. Ensure that staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the community care facility.

Observation. Upon a review of one volunteer's file, Licensing observed that their immunization status was not obtained.
Corrective action. Ensure that volunteer files are complete.

Observation. Upon a review of three staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's criminal record check is addressed to another facility. The Manager completed the sharing form on September 20, 2022.
Corrective action. Ensure that staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the community care facility.

Observation. Upon a random review of 3 out of 13 children's records Licensing observed 1 child's record missing the telephone number of the medical practitioner.
