    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following were noted within the outdoor play space: -3 areas where there is an entrapment hazard between the chain link fence and the building. 2 areas involved the area around the air conditioning unit and one at the far end of the outdoor play space. -Broken window pane within the outdoor play space, edges are sharp. -An area where the fence appears to have been repaired, sharp wires edges are exposed.

    Corrective action. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the contravention noted above on or before December 18, 2024

    Observation. A blind cord hanging within children's reach in one of the Preschool rooms. Potential strangulation hazard.

    A licensee must (a) ensure that a community care facility has (i) emergency exits that meet the requirements of the BC Building Code, and (ii) a fire drill system that is approved as definedby section 31 of the Fire Services Act.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher in one of the preschool program and group child care (30 mnths to SA) program has not been serviced annually. The fire extinguisher was last serviced on July 23/22.

    Corrective action. Ensure that fire extinguishers are serviced annually.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a child's care plan is reviewed at least once a year.

    Observation. Upon a review of thirteen staff records, Licensing observed that one staff's criminal record check (CRC) has not been obtained. The Manager informed Licensing that they have sent in the papers for a CRC but have not yet received it.

    Corrective action. Ensure that staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the community care facility.

    Observation. Licensing observed a large branch and other small branches in the outdoor play area. The branches had fallen down from the trees located on the other side of the fence.

    Observation. Upon a random review of twelve children's records, Licensing observed one child missing their medical insurance plan number.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children's records are complete prior to the child attending the community care facility.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.

    Observation. Upon a review of twelve staff records Licensing observed one staff with two references that had no evidence that they had been checked. The two references had no signatures on them by the persons who had provided them for the staff nor was there any evidence that the Manager had contacted the references. Licensing provided education on what would meet the intent of this regulation.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all staff records are complete prior to the staff working at the community care facility.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - A wooden car play table, in the Preschool program, has a broken wooden panel that is accessible to children. The panel has been taped up however, the tape is dirty and no longer holding the wooden piece up. - The outdoor play area has garbage, such as paper wrappers, broken ruler with a sharp edge, lollipop sticks, scattered everywhere. Licensing provided education on conducting outdoor checks to ensure that it is clean and safe for children prior to the children going outside.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the furniture, equipment and fixtures within the community care facility are clean and in good repair.
