    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was noted: -Teachers are moving back into the school and they had stored all their items on top of the shelving within the School Age room, it is acting as a topple hazard. Teacher's started to remove the items from on top of the shelf while Licensing was on site. -There are thorny bushes growing within the School Age outdoor play space, as well as some mushrooms that have grown from the ground, accessible to the children in care.

    Corrective action. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the contravention noted above on or before August 27, 2025

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. The following was noted: -Diapering mat within IT room has some rips on the plastic, not allowing the mat to be adequately cleaned. -Shelving in School age program is made of raw wood or has edges of wood exposed. The shelving is visibly soiled in places and it not easy to clean as the wood is porous. -Gate at the bottom of the stairs within the GCC 3-5/IT playground is in disrepair as the clasp is loose.

    Corrective action. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the contravention noted above on or before August 27, 2025

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A care program described as School Age Care on School Grounds where the licensee is not a board of education must ensure that any play materials or equipment are appropriate for the age and development of the children in care. Subsections (1)(a), (3) and (4) do not apply to School Age Care on School Grounds where the licensee is a board of education.

    Observation. At the end of the school year, teachers remove all items out of the classroom, including some of the play material and equipment that is used by the School Age program during the school year. There was limited items available for the School Age children at the time of inspection. Discussion had with staff about ensuring that there is adequate play materials and equipment all throughout the year.

    Corrective action. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the contravention noted above on or before August 27, 2025

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. The following was noted at today's inspection: -There is no shade available for the children within the outdoor play space. Black resilient surfacing makes the space attract more heat and there is no area for the children to seek shelter from the heat. -Paint on the exterior of the house has started to chip. Chipped paint can be hazardous to children if ingested. Both the GCC 3-5 program and IT program have access to the peeling paint as the outdoor play space is attached to the house.

    Corrective action. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the contravention noted above on or before July 23, 2024

    A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.

    Observation. Staff have not been practicing the yearly emergency drill which requires that the facility go to their alternate emergency location. Staff have been practicing an Earthquake drill instead which involves hiding under the table. Discussion had with staff about practicing the emergency drill. Recommended that children and carrying of emergency supplies are involved when carrying out this drill.

    Corrective action. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address this contravention noted above on or before July 23, 2024

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed a training foam toilet seat on the bathroom floor in the Group Child Care (under 36 months). Licensing discussed how placing the toilet seat on bathroom floor is unhygienic.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a program has been establish too instruct children in, and to practice the rules of, health and hygiene.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon a random review of six children's records Licensing, observed two children's records missing the date enrolment. Licensing provided clarification on what the "date of enrolment" means.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - a tower fan in one of the play rooms in the Group Child Care (30 mnths to SA) program. Potential to fall on a child and injure them. - the fridge temperature was measured at 6.2 degrees Celsius in the Group Child Care (under 36 mnths) program.

    Corrective action. Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there is one infant toddler staff and an early childhood educator assistant that works in the group child care (under 36 months) program with 4-8 children. The third infant toddler staff arrives at 10:30AM. The staff to child requirement is 1 infant toddler educator for 1-4 children and 1 infant toddler educator and one other educator for 5-8 children. Therefore, the ratio of employees to children is not being maintained at all times. Licensing provided education on schedule E and the appropriate staff to child ratio.

    Corrective action. Ensure that the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed a cord hanging down where the group child care (under 36 months) children were sitting in their high chairs and having snack. It appeared that the cord had been taped up previously but had come loose. Potential for a child to strangle themselves with the cord. Licensing provided education on ensuring that such items are made inaccessible to children in care.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there was no fire drill documented for the month of March 2021. The Manager informed Licensing that a fire drill had been implemented but not recorded.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that current records are kept respecting fire and emergency drills.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following accessible to children in care; - In the outdoor grass play area there is a big wooden fence panel resting against the wooden fence. This is a potential hazard of falling on a child and hurting them. Additionally, there are 5 rusted nails sticking out of the wooden panel. The staff informed Licensing that there had been work done on the fence recently and the wooden panel had been left behind by workers. Education provided on conducting outdoor playground checks to identify such hazards. - A tall fan placed close to a child napping. Potential hazard of falling on a child and hurt them. (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION).

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the outdoor wooden gate's latch does not lock and leads into the back parking lot. This is a potential hazard of a child getting out of the outdoor play area and into the parking lot. This is a repeat contravention.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the entire outdoor play area is enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children and will ensure that children are free of harm.
