  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. . . There is limited options for storage of equipment and materials throughout the room. Due to this, staff have added small storage shelves and wheeled equipment. This results in much of the perimeter of the room being used for storage. It also appears that part of the nap room is also used to store supplies. It was also noted that some of the small storage pieces could be tipped or fall on a child as they are not sturdy. LO discussed options to reduce clutter within the main room and nap room. This will make it easier to clean the facility and make the environment less over stimulating for young children. One idea was to install a tall cupboard (secured to the wall). Other option included shelving above cubbies or reduce the equipment / materials within the room. This will allow staff to remove all the small pieces brought in that take away from usable floor space.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING / Records For Each ChildNon-critical

The licensee keeps a current record for each child showing the information required. [CCLR Sec. 57]

Observation. Children's files were reviewed and while most are completed, LO observed parent as the emergency contact.

  • STAFFING / Emergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical

Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]

Observation. September 26, 2025 - While Manager has submitted updated plan and procedure to LO, it has not been added to the facility policies and is not available for staff. As there will be updated to the policy and procedure manual, it is important that staff are trained on the updates and knowledgeable in the process. Therefore this remains out of compliance and is a recurring contravention as staff are unable to practice without appropriate procedure. January 16, 2025 - Fire drills are documented (monthly), but the Emergency plan has not been documented. The emergency plan must be implemented at least once a year. LO discussed with staff the policy regarding drills while there is a meeting place, there is no secondary location noted. Current plan states that manager will provide direction. If there is an emergency evacuation and manager is not on site, what will staff do? Your plan should outline all steps for staff to take in any emergency.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

Observation. Within the outdoor space, there are car tires that are available for children to play with. They are laying on their side, and have pooled water (standing water) within them. LO had a discussion with manager regarding health and safety concerns. Some options she shared included using it as a planter, or drilling holes to allow for water drainage.
