    Observation. The Manager stated that there is a maintenance log and system for staff to share areas that require addressing. She also stated that there is ongoing maintenance conducted. Some areas noted at todays inspection include deep cleaning of the floor and base of full length windows and emergency exit doors. Wood furniture (chairs, tables, shelving) is showing wear due to regular cleaning, due to this, the items are unable to be sanitized as they are no longer non-porous.

    The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

    Observation. The manager explained that there is regular cleaning of the outdoor space and that in coming weeks a gardener will be on site to prune and clear areas of the outdoor space that are requiring it. LO observed the following areas that need to be addressed on an ongoing basis - a wood plank near the entrance to the outdoor space is loose, there are areas of the outdoor space that need a cleaning / trim as they are encroaching on the play space and could be possible areas of hiding. There was also some thorny branches / twigs that are growing into the paths. Around the riding path are holes / burrows in the bark mulch / sand that could be tripping hazards.

    Observation. There is an ongoing Maintenance plan at the facility with plans to move through the centre and fix flooring. Other items noted at today's inspection that will require repair/replacement include - bathroom gabled doors as there is water damage, and areas that cannot be disinfected. There is also some concern in some of the rooms about the window frames base, as there is chipping, cracks and rotting.

Information must be available to staff working with children, as the intent for emergency cards is that all information required to care for children is included (i.e. sensitivities or other non-epi pen related allergies).

While there is an ongoing maintenance plan at the facility, there are some areas that LO observed throughout the facility that are in need of repair or cleaning, such as shelving is starting to wear, gate to bathroom is peeling, step stools in bathrooms and toilets need cleaning and some caulk around sinks is peeling.

This has previously been noted, and while Manager stated that they are trimmed back regularly, it is important that staff in each of the outdoor spaces keep a log to track when branches imped into the play area and could be harmful to children.

Aug. 23, 2022 - cots in numerous nap rooms remain touching and pose a risk of cross contamination.

    Observation. The manager explained that there is a maintenance program and with a plan to paint walls. Other areas that LO noted at todays visit include - Edging on some of the cupboards is starting to peel, white shelving / art units in most rooms are showing wear and tear and the tops of some shelves have worn down to the particle board. The exposed particle board is concerning as it is unable to be disinfected. Each of the rooms have a mini fridge for storage of bottles or other items for children and staff, the temperatures vary in each room and do not meet the standard for safe food storage. It was also seen that windows are not clean with streaks and marks at children's level. This was noted first thing in the morning as children were arriving.

    Observation. As observed during the previous inspection visit, LO observed the following issues remain in non-compliance: -walls in the main activity and nap areas are in poor repair. Manager stated that there is a plan in place to repair and paint the facility walls during the next scheduled closure Spring\Summer of 2022. -the flooring in the main activity room and hallways of the facility appear to be in poor repair. The laminate flooring is lifting, popping and bubbling in several areas of the activity space and hallways posing a tripping hazard and risk of injury. Manager stated there is a plan in place to have the flooring repaired during the scheduled December closure. During today's inspection visit, LO observed that the cupboard door below the change table has a broken handle which poses a hazard.

Discussion took place with the manager with regards to the emergency contact being a person who is to be contacted in place of a parent and if the parent cannot be reached. In addition, 2 children's records did not have an emergency contact listed.

    Observation. Discussion took place with the manager with regard to the use of the rainbow walking rope and how it can pose a risk of injury when the children's wrist are linked through the rope. During the transition from the playground to inside, LO observed a child who was waiting to go inside and suddenly fell down. The child was unable to free their arm from the rope. LO shared that perhaps the walking rope can be utilized in a more playful manner by offering children the choice of a colored ring they would like to hold rather than linking the children's wrists through the rope.
