  • PROGRAM / Program of activitiesNon-critical

Children are provided with a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that is designed for the development and care of the children, and is appropriate for the age and development of the children. [CCLR Sec. 44(1)(a)(b)(c) and Schedule(G)]

Observation. This was previously noted as a contravention due to program not meeting individual children's needs as well as the group. While LO continued to observe concerns within this room, there may be other factors that are contributing to children's misbehaviours and other minor incidents. LO discussed with Manager the following: - how the room is set up - there is lack of space for deep play, areas are not set up with clear and defined zones - the overall amount of equipment - makes the room feel crowded, it is easier to bring out more than to take away when children are overstimulated - the bright colours on the wall - while bright colours are fun for toys, having them on every wall can lead to overstimulation, making it difficult for a child's brain to rest or focus. - developmentally appropriateness - as children enter child care at older ages (longer options for maternity leave), the equipment available for an infant room does not continue to meet this groups needs. some of the larger pieces in the infant room are designed for children under 12 months. - there is no quiet area for children to be individually - refer to zones, which is dividing the space based on activity types—such as noisy versus quiet or wet versus dry - this reduces chaos and encourage focused play. This "zoning" approach helps children understand what is expected in each area and allows for easier supervision by staff. A recommendation when designing your spaces is to get down on the floor regularly to view the learning environment from the perspective of a child in your group.
