  Medications that staff have agreed to administer are readily accessible to staff and are administered in the correct dosage at the correct times. [CCLR Sec. 53(1)]

  Observation. There are 4 epi-pen available in the "emergency backpack", while two children have care plans in the emergency binder / cards, no care plans are posted or readily available with the medication and there are no permission to administer medication form available. It was also noted that two children do not have any information available other than Epi-pens.

  The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

  Observation. Discussion with the manager regarding some area that required addressing - chip in the bathroom floor, handprints on the mirror / walls, cloth drying on the bathroom half door, loose fixture in the bathroom. It was suggested that there is a written log of maintenance and repairs that staff observer throughout the facility.

  The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

  Observation. In the pathway to the outdoor space, is a storage shelf that is over four feet but not secure to the wall. Manager stated that it is being moved today and a new item is replacing it.

  For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]

  Observation. During todays visit, LO observed that there are 4 Epi-pens in the "emergency backpack" with no care plans. Two of the children did have care plans in their file, but they have not been updated.

  The licensee keeps a current record for each child showing the information required. [CCLR Sec. 57]

  Observation. LO reviewed emergency cards in the room and audited children's files in the Managers office. It was observed that children are missing emergency contact that is in addition to parent and Doctor / Medical practitioners information. Asked manager what is the process in place for children's files / emergency cards to be reviewed and updated if information is missing.

  All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

  Observation. The equipment on site (indoor and out) is in good repair, but, it was observed that there is areas where the equipment is limited, not age / developmentally appropriate, complete or sufficient numbers for the children in care.
