    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. 1) Under the kitchen sink, there are cleaning supplies in an unlocked cupboard. During the time of observation, the sliding door to the kitchen was open making the cleaning supplies accessible to children. 2) Cleaning supplies stored in an unlocked storage room are accessible to children.

    Corrective action. 1) Staff will either put a child-lock on this cupboard or relocate supplies elsewhere that is inaccessible to children. 2) Staff will ensure that the items in this storage room are inaccessible to children.

    Observation. There is an unsecure cabinet door in one of the children's washrooms.

    When advertising or otherwise offering services to the public, a licensee must identify the care program being offered.

    Observation. The facility holds a license for Group Child Care (30mos to SA), but upon reviewing registration forms, program scheduling, and external advertising/signage, the facility is advertising and operating as a Preschool program. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #SWAR-CKERJU. Facility staff said that they will be taking down the external signange by the end of the day.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the service type on the facility license is reflected in the program.

    A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.

    Observation. Upon reviewing registration files and discussion with the Manager, a child requiring emergency medication does not currently have a care plan in place at the facility. There is a medication adminstration form available.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is created in collaboration with the parents.

    Observation. Before entering the classroom, Licensing observed a child leaving the program. While in the classroom, there was 1 staff with 8 children meaning the 1 staff had 9 children prior to Licensing's arrival. Ratio was not maintained. Manager stated that she had to leave the facility due to an emergency.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the ratio of employees to children is always maintained.

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. In discussion with the Manager the facility has a supply of water and food and each family provides their child with a small comfort kit. At this time there are insufficient emergency supplies for the total number of children and staff enrolled.

    Corrective action. The Manager will need to review their current supplies and supplement them to meet the needs of all individuals on site for a minimum of 72 hours. The Manager may chose to research the items they need for their facility which may include going on to the BC Emergency and Disaster Preparedness website.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed some children leave the program at 11:30am, the time of departure was not recorded on the sign in/out sheet. The manager wrote down the sign out times.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a record showing the time of arrival and departure is indicated for each child.
