A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A bag of ice melt is accessible to children in the outdoor play area. During the inspection, the licensee placed the ice melt in an area that is not accessible to children.
Corrective action. Please ensure any hazardous objects or substances are not accessible to children.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. One child with a parent listed as an emergency contact.
Corrective action. The licensee will connect with the family to obtain an emergency contact that is neither parent.
19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - STAFFING
A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The emergency evacuation is being practiced and recorded at the same time as a monthly fire drill. Licensing explained that these are two drills that are practiced and recorded separately.
Corrective action. The licensee said she will practice and record these drills separately.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The following was observed: 1) 2 telephone cords accessible to children; 1 was dangling off a ledge. 2) Cord of heater accessible to children. 3) Outdoors: bottom of fencing (by blue plastic bin) with a gap that exceeds 3.5 inches
Corrective action. 1) and 2) Please ensure cords are secured and not accessible to children. 3) Please address the gap to ensure that it does not exceed 3.5 inches.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. No emergency water supply available in emergency kit.
Corrective action. Please ensure there is a sufficient amount of water to supply all children and staff for at least 72 hours.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. 6 children's absences were not recorded and 4 children's sign-in and out times were not recorded for the week.
Corrective action. Please ensure all children's absences, sign-in and out times are recorded daily.
19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).
Observation. 2 children present without registration files. As per the Licensee, the children are siblings and trying out the daycare.
Corrective action. Please ensure complete registration files are obtained for both children before returning to the daycare.

Observation. No written instructions regarding follow up action for a child with an allergy. As per the Licensee, no medication is required.
Corrective action. Please ensure written instructions relating to the allergy is obtained by the parents.
