- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Dishwasher pods accessible under sink. Upon notifying the Manager, the pods were stored elsewhere that is inaccessible to children.
Corrective action. Please ensure hazardous objects or substances are not accessible to children.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Multiple children's absences were not recorded for the mornings of October 7th and 8th. During the inspection, the Manager filled out the absences and moving forward, will accurate document absences for both the mornings and afternoons.
Corrective action. Please ensure absences are accurately recorded.

10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation. In discussion with the Manager, a child requiring emergency medication does not have a care plan in place. Licensing and the Manager discussed having a care plan in place that is created with the parents (at minimum). Licensing also explained obtaining an updated Medication Adminstration Form for the emergency medication.
Corrective action. Please ensure that any child requiring extra support has a current care plan in place.
19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation. Fire drill was not recorded for the following months: February and June 2023. As per the Manager, a drill was conducted, but not recorded. As per the Manager the program combines with another facility for the months of July and August and this is why those months are not recorded. Licensing and Manager discussed how to document these months on the sheet.
Corrective action. Please ensure fire drills are practiced and recorded on a monthly basis.

Observation. During the routine inspection, 11 children's files were reviewed and 1 child's file was missing a photo.

19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation. During the routine inspection and review of the children's files it was observed that one child required extra support regarding adminstration of medication. The child's file did not specify when the medication should be administered and how much of the medication should be given to the child.
Corrective action. Please ensure the care plan for the child is reviewed with the relevant parties and a clear plan is created as to how much medication should be administered and when.
19220 - CCLR s.58(1)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (c) produce records, on demand, to the medical health officer.
Observation. During the routine inspection the licensing officer requested to see the staff files. Manager said that all staff files are kept at the head office. Licensing asked to see the Staff Qualifications list and manager said that she has taken the list down to revise it and update it with the relevant staff information. The Staff Qualifications list was not available at the time of the inspection.
Corrective action. Please revise/update the Staff Qualifications list and post it in a relevant location.

Observation. During the routine inspection random children's files were reviewed. It was noted that one child had a detailed care plan, however the care plan was not reviewed annually.
Corrective action. Please ensure all care plans are reviewed annually.

Observation. During the routine inspection, 11 children's files were reviewed and 2 children's files were missing an enrollment date.

Observation. During the routine inspection the attendance sheet was reviewed and it was observed that on several days the section of the sign out (out in the am - going to school from the facility) and the sign in (in the pm - arriving at the facility after school has ended) were not completed. The transfer of care and attendence were not clearly identified.
Corrective action. Please ensure that the sign in and out attendance sheet and transfer of care clearly and accurately shows the arrival and departure of the children.

Observation. During their stay at the beach the child sustained a sunburn on the back and neck. The staff did not check or followed through to see if the child re-applied sunscreen. This is a concern to the health and safety of the child.

Observation. Licensing saw a brown book case/storage unit located in the intermediate room. This item was over 4" and not secured and appeared unsteady.
Corrective action. Ensure any item over 4" is secured in a manner that prevents it from inadvertently tipping over which potentially may result in an injury to an individual.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. The staff room/office is located off the primary activity room. The staff room was not secured and staff personal belongings were accessible.
Corrective action. Ensure staff's personal belongings are stored in a manner that is inaccessible to children. Staff may be storing items in their belongings that may be hazardous to children such as over the counter medication (i.e. Tylenol, Advil etc).
11200 - CCLR s.17 - PROGRAM
A licensee must provide to children a comprehensive and coordinated program of indoor and outdoor activities that (b) is appropriate for the age and development of children in each group in the community care facility.
Observation. The program has a wide selection of DVD's available. Upon review of a shelf of DVD's licensing noted some were rated above a G rating.
Corrective action. Ensure all materials for children are age and developmentally appropriate - G rated movies. If the program wants to view movies at a rating above this they must 1) obtain written parental/guardian consent for their child to view the DVD or 2) provide an alternate activity for children who do not wish to watch the DVD or the parent/guardian has not provided written consent.

Observation. A random selection of chidren's files were reviewed. Out of the four reviewed, two files contained information regarding emergency medication. The manager was not aware of one child that required emergency medication.
Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan is developed in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support.
