    Observation. Upon reviewing the emergency kits, Licensing noted four emergency kits for children, three packagegs of rice crackers, and some water bottles. The current amount is insufficient to sustain the needs of all children and staff of the program for at least 72 hours. This is a repeat contravention.

    Corrective action. Please ensure there is a sufficient amount of emergency food supply and water to provide for all the children and staff of the program.

    Observation. Upon reviewing 6 children's files, Licensing observed 1 child's file missing a doctor name and telephone number. As per the Manager, the child is new to the country. Licensing advised to put a note identifying this information on the child's file instead of leaving it blank. Families can also put in a walk-in clinic information to fulfill this information. This is a repeat contravention.

This will also act as a reminder for the facility to follow-up with the families regarding the missing MSP #s. This is a repeat contravention.

    Observation. During the inspection of the physical facility it was noted that under the kitchen sink there were a multitude of plastic bags. Children could access the plastic bags with ease.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all plastic bags are stored in a manner that are inaccessible to children. Please ensure children do not have access to any hazardous items.

    Observation. During the inspection of the outdoor area of the facility it was noted that the rubber tiles located within the outdoor play area are separating and shifting. The tiles are posing a tripping hazard. The rubber surface is compromised and is no longer a continuous surface.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that the rubber tiles are installed/repaired in a manner that do not pose a tripping hazard.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: 1) baseboard molding in the hallway missing leaving gaps between the edge of the flooring and the base of the walls 2) baseboard molding in the children's washroom appears to have fallen off the wall and is laying on the ground adjacent to the edge of the flooring and the base of the walls 3) cupboards in the kitchen are chipped along the edges and 4) in the main activity room there are posts and these posts have exposed gyproc due to damage.

    Corrective action. While licensing acknowledges facilities will have wear and tear the Licensee must address the issues as they arise. The above noted items are in need of repair or replacement to ensure the facility is in good repair and are non-porous to allow the surfaces to be cleaned and sanitized.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed 3 containers of vitamins located on the lower shelf of the kitchen upper cabinets. Licensing also observed 2 containers of dish soap located under the kitchen sink. Both areas were unsecured. Staff personal belongings were accessible to children inside the doorway to the office/storage area. During the inspection Licensing observed several children enter this area unsupervised.

    Corrective action. The Licensee must secure these items in a manner that children do not have access to them.

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

    Observation. Licensing noted the following: 1) the southwest corner of the wooden fence has portions that are rotting 2) the treads on the red slide are cracked 3) a green light pole is rusting 4) a few 'eye screws' are rusted on the south wooden wall of the play area near the steps 5) the upper gate is unable to close.

    Corrective action. The Licensee will need to submit a written plan as to how and when the above noted items will be addressed.

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.

    Observation. In the main activity area licensing noted several tables being used for the children for various activities including eating lunch. The surface of the tables appear to be made of a porous material and are not able to be washed and sanitized.

    Corrective action. Licensee will need to replace or repair these items in a manner that are easy to clean and sanitize.

    Observation. Licensing observed a number of wooden shelving units within the program. These units are over 4' high and there the potential for them to tip over resulting in an injury to an individual.

    Corrective action. Secure any free standing units over 4' high to prevent it from inadvertently falling over.

    Observation. The staff of the program said there are times when children are taken off site for neighbourhood walks, parks etc. Upon review of the first aid kits there is nothing in it to address swelling such as an instant ice pack.

    Corrective action. Ensure the first aid kit includes items for use both on and off site.
