A licensee must have first aid kits that are readily accessible to all employees, including while care is provided off the community care facility premises.
Observation. Three programs with first aid kits that do not contain an instant ice pack.
Corrective action. Please ensure first aid kits are equipped with instant ice packs.
11220 - CCLR s.23(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the under 36 months program, staff personal belongings are accessible to children. This is a repeat contravention from 2021. Upon notifying the Manager, the staff placed her personal item elsewhere that is inaccessible to children. Corrected during inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure staff personal belongings are inaccessible to children.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - RECORDS AND REPORTING
The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation. 2 care plans were not annually reviewed with the parents. As per the Manager, the care plans were verbally reviewed with the parents. Licensing explained that if there are no changes to the care plans then to document the date of review and the parent's signature on the current forms. If any information has changed then a new form/care plan to be completed.
Corrective action. The Manager will review the care plans with the parents and will document the review date along with the parents' signatures.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. In the outdoor play area, Licensing observed the following: -Black rubber tiles covering the play area are lifting and separating which poses as a tripping hazard. -Green and black residue covering the play equipment. The Manager explained that this presented after the recent rain fall and that the facility plans to address this during their upcoming outdoor maintenance and clean-up. Both of the items above are repeat contraventions.
Corrective action. Please ensure all furniture, equipment, and fixtures are in clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation. During the inspection of the outdoor facility the following was noted: - at the back of the play area it was observed that the wooden beams supporting the plays pace were rotting and beginning to come apart. - the black rubber tiles covering the play area were beginning to lift and separate due to the growing roots of the tree in the area. This is a tripping hazard. - the grass at the secondary playspace was growing and needs to be cut or maintained to prevent children from tripping. - the play toys were covered in green and black residue from the trees and the recent rain fall.
Corrective action. Please ensure that the items mentioned above are repaired or replaced.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing noted foam edges were taped to the side of a table used by children for activities and eating. The foam pieces are not secured and the use of tape prevents the item from being cleaned and sanitized.
Corrective action. The foam edges may be removed or an alternate method be implemented to secure the foam.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. A staff member stored their backpack containing personal belongings in the cubby area. As there is the potential for their to be hazardous items in the backpack (i.e.: over the counter medication, small items that potentially pose a choking hazard etc) it should be stored in a manner that is inaccessible to children. The Licensee has a storage area within the facility for staff to store all personal items.
Corrective action. Ensure all staff store their personal belongings out of the reach of children.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - LICENSING
Licensees must not make any structural change to a community care facility unless the licensee first (a) submits plans for the change to a medical health officer.
Observation. The Licensee must notify licensing of any structural changes and obtain approval and submit floor plans prior to the work being conducted. The Licensee has installed two wash basins adjacent to the children's cubby area and installed an air exchange system. The Licensee was informed to submit amended floor plans for approval on December 30,2020 by licensing during a COVID-19 audit. The air exchange system doesn't need to be noted on the floor plans however the two basins must be noted for approval. The school aged children are using washrooms closer to their program which have not been formally approved.
Corrective action. Submit amended floor plans to include the new wash basins and the addition of the two washrooms.
