    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection the refrigerator temperature was 5.7 degrees Celsius

    Corrective action. The manager turned the refrigerator temperature down and said she will ensure it is between 0 and 4 degrees Celsius.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Upon inspection children were not signed out on Oct. 23, children were not signed in/out on Oct. 24 and there was no record for children who attended Oct 27.

    Corrective action. The manager corrected this during the inspection.

    A licensee must (a) ensure that a community care facility has (i) emergency exits that meet the requirements of the BC Building Code, and (ii) a fire drill system that is approved as definedby section 31 of the Fire Services Act.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the emergency exit was through the garage but that the emergency exit was blocked by various items making it inaccessible.

    Corrective action. Ensure emergency exit is accessible.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. Licensing reviewed 6 children's files and the following was observed: - three children's files were missing an emergency contact person - one child's file was missing a dr name and phone number

    Corrective action. Ensure all children's files are complete.

    The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

    Observation. Licensee said that 2 persons who are ordinarily present in the facility but do not have access to the children in care are now living at the house. Licensee said that a CRC was processed but she was unable to provide it to licensing.

    Corrective action. Licensee said that they will re-apply for the CRC.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Upon inspecting the outdoor space the following was observed: - broken ceramic tile was found on the ground - debris behind the shed. The plywood which was used to block the debris had fallen on the ground and the debris was now accessible to children - dried blackberry vines - water hose was untangled and was across the pathway to the playground causing a tripping hazard

    Corrective action. Ensure that a safe and healthy environment is provided at all times.

    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. Licensing noted that the water temperature measure 64.4 degrees Celsius. Licensing observed that the licensee assisted the children to was their hands.

    Corrective action. Ensure water is no more than 49 degrees Celsius. Licensee said that she will turn the hot water off and will continue to assist children wash their hands.
