• STAFFING

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

  Observation. Licensing reviewed 4 staff files and one staff file was missing validation of ECE A certificate.

  Corrective action. Ensure all staff files are complete.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

  Observation. During the inspection of the physical facility it was noted that the school where the facility is located was under construction. A safety plan was available, submitted to licensing, and approved by licensing and followed during the duration of the construction. However, it was evident that the fence of the playground has been removed and has been partially put back in place. There are large gaps under the chainlink fence and the chainlink fence has not been fully secured to the supporting bars.

  Corrective action. Staff spoke with manager over the phone and manager said that a conversation was had with the construction crew and that the fence will be repaired once the construction is finished. Please ensure that the fence of the playground is secure and no gaps are present.

• EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

  A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the routine inspection of the playground it was noted that near the sand box there were two piles of animal feces. Manager said that they usually inspect the playground before it is used.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that you provide a healthy and safe environment at all times.

  A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.

  Observation. During the routine inspection it was noted that the manager's name was not available.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that the manager's name is present in a prominent location at the facility.

  A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

  Observation. During the routine inspection it was noted that a Screen Time policy was not available.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that a Screen Time Policy is available to staff and parents.

  A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

  Observation. During the routine inspection four children's files were reviewed and once child's file was missing an enrollment date.

  Corrective action. Please ensure that all children's files are complete.

  A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.

  Observation. During the routine inspection it was observed that the child-care classroom did not have a fire extinguisher available.

  Corrective action. Please ensure a fire extinguisher is readily available.
