A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Outdoor play area had broken floorboards that lift when stepped on.

Corrective action. The manager will develop a maintenance plan to address the contravention.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. Cleaning substances/supplies were accessible to children in the washroom used for childcare

Corrective action. The licensee will ensure that cleaning substances/supplies are not accesible to children

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. Food and water in the emergency supplies was found to be expired and insufficient. There must be enough food and water in the emergency supplies for each child and the licensee for 72 hours

Corrective action. The manager will ensure sufficient non-expired food and water is available.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

Observation. The minor incident log book is not being utilized, licensee said that minor incidents do occur but are not logged in the available log book

Corrective action. The manager will use the log book to record all minor incidents that occur in the facility

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.

Observation. Immunization status was not available for the licensee.

Corrective action. The licensee will obtain immunization status

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

Observation. LO observed no hand washing between diaper changes for either the children or staff. Additionally, no sanitizing/cleaning systems were observed.

Corrective action. Licensee to implement a plan to instruct children in, and to practice the rules of, health and hygiene.
