A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Carpets in the Infant toddler and 3-5 classrooms were observed to be curling and could cause a tripping hazard. Fridges in the Infant toddler and 3-5 classroom had a temperature of 8C. This is above the required 0-4C.

Corrective action. The manager will replace/repair the carpets and ensure the temperature of the fridge is within the allowable range

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. In the Group Child Care (under 36 months) program, Licensing observed cleaning products in a lower cupboard, which was accessible to children in care. In the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) program, Licensing observed sunscreen on a lower shelf, which was accessible to children in care. The identified items in both rooms are considered to be hazardous and are labelled to keep out of reach of children.

Corrective action. At the time of inspection, staff removed the sunscreen in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) program from the lower shelf and a child lock was secured on the lower cupboard in the Group Child Care (under 36 months) program

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

Observation. In the Group Child Care (under 36 months) program, Licensing observed 10 children in care while the attendance indicated 11. Staff stated one child had been picked up and not signed out.

Corrective action. Staff to review attendance regularly to ensure an accurate record of children in care.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. Licensing reviewed six children's files of which one was missing the name and telephone number of a medical practitioner.

Corrective action. Manager to obtain information from parent by correct by date.
