- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The fridge in the downstairs playroom was 9c. A fan and air purifier were on shelves, not secured to the wall and may fall in an earthquake.
Corrective action. The manager will ensure the fridge temperature is between 0-4c, The manager placed the air purifier on the floor during this inspection and will ensure that the fan is either on the floor or secured to the wall.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. Information for an emergency contact and a doctor or clinic was not available for one child.
Corrective action. The manger will ensure the child's file contains all required information.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. A cover is missing on a light fixure exposing two fluorescent light bulbs in the cubby area. There is a risk of the bulb exploding and shattering into the cubby are.
Corrective action. Please ensure all fluorescent light bulbs are adequately covered.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. The following were observed during this inspection: one fridge temperature was measured at 8c and a second fridge temperature was measured at 6c. Two bottles of Lysol cleaning solution are being stored in a bottles intended for different cleaning solutions.
Corrective action. Please ensure all fridge temperatures are between 0-4c and that all cleaning solutions are kept in their original containers.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation. Evidence of references being checked for one staff was not available. The Manager stated references had been checked.
Corrective action. Please ensure evidence of references being checked are available for all staff.

Observation. Evidence of an ECE certificate being verified was not available for one staff. The Manager stated she had validated the certificate.
Corrective action. Please ensure evidence of ECE/ECEA certificates is available for all staff.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. In the bathroom on the lower floor an area of panelling is peeling away from the wall and the free standing sink has areas that are peeling.
Corrective action. Please ensure these items are in good repair.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES
A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide.
Observation. Upon inspection the Licensing Officer observed a lunch box contained meat. The ice pack in the lunch box was not frozen and there is a concern that food is not being stored between 0-4c. Discussion took place about storing perishable food items in the fridge. This is repeat noncompliance.
Corrective action. Please ensure all perishable food are stored between 0-4c

Observation. The manager was unable to locate all of the facility policies and procedures during this inspection.

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation. Hot water accessible to children on the upper floor of the building was 50c.
Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to water hotter than 49c.

Observation. The name of the manager is not posted. This is repeat non-compliance and was noted on Routine Inspection #JKIM-BQ9L2 dated June 3, 2021
Corrective action. Please ensure the name of the manager is posted in a prominent place in the facility.

A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide.
Observation. Children's lunch boxes are not stored in a fridge. On inspection CCFL found chicken in one lunch box and is concerned that this meat is not refrigerated for.
Corrective action. Please ensure all perishable foods are stored between 0-4c
17010 - CCLR s.48(1)(a) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. There are not enough emergency supplies for 72 hours.
Corrective action. Please ensure there are enough emergency supplies including food and water for 72 hours for all the children.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation. Time in the full day program is recorded at circle time and not as children arrive. Absences in the half day program are not being recorded on a consistent basis.
Corrective action. To ensure the attendance record accurately reflects the number of children in the facility in the case of an emergency evacuation please sign children in as they arrive. Please ensure all absences are recorded.

Observation. Six staff files were reviewed. Evidence that references for two staff had been verified was not available. CCFL discussed ways of recording reference checks with the assistant manager.
Corrective action. Please ensure references are verified and evidence of this is available.
