Observation. Licensing observed the following: - Gardening tools are accessible to children in the backyard (this is a repeated contravetion to inspection #WBET-D8ZNCH) - [CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION] Various grinder with blades stored in an area that is accessible to the children - [CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION] Electrical cord is at the children's level

Corrective action. Manager will store the gardening tools in the shed

Observation. During inspection, Licensing observed that one of the children was using the portable potty in the hallway outside of the bathroom that is directly facing the main entrance.

Corrective action. Manager will ensure to move the portable potty into the bathroom for children to use

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

Observation. - [CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION] Licensing observed that children were not being instructed to wash their hands after bathroom use - Single use towels system not in place

Corrective action. Manager will ensure to change children's towel each time after use

Observation. Reviewed eight children's file, and four of the children's file indicated that they were under 36 months.

Corrective action. Manager will put in an exemption request immediately.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

Observation. There is a large trampoline in the backyard for children to use. A trampoline policy or written permission for families allowing children to use the trampoline is not in place. (This is a repeated contravention to inspection #WBET-D8ZNCH)

Corrective action. Manager is to provide Licensing Officer a trampoline poicy for review and obtain written permission from families.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. A hot lunch program is provided by the facility. The manager describe how she prepares food for cooking. A cutting board used for meat preparation is not sanitized before other food products are prepared on it. This increases the risk of food cross contamination. The fridge temperature was 6.5c The fridge being too warm is repeat noncompliance.

Corrective action. The manager will either use a dedicated cutting board for meat preparation or ensure the cutting board is sanitized after being used to prepared meat. She will also enure the fridge temperature is between 0-4c.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. Gardening tools and a broken adult bike are accessible to children in the back yard.

Corrective action. The manager will move these items out of reach of children.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.

Observation. There is a large trampoline in the backyard for the use of children. The facility does not have a trampoline supervision policy or written permission for families allowing children to use the trampoline.

Corrective action. The manager will create a trampoline supervision policy which will include information including (but not limited to) what steps will be taken to ensure the safety of children using the trampoline, how this equipment will be checked and maintained, what ages of children can use the trampoline. She will also obtain written permission form families before children use the trampoline.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. There are not enough emergency supplies for eight children for 72 hours.

Corrective action. The manager will add more supplies to the emergency kit.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. Files for six children were reviewed. Immunization status was not available in two files.

Corrective action. The manager will obtain immunization status for all files.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.

Observation. Files for six children were reviewed. Date of enrolment was not available in three files.

Corrective action. The manger will ensure the date of enrolment is available in all files.

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The fridge temperature was measure at 7.6c.

Corrective action. The manager turned the temperature of the fridge down during this inspection and the second measurement was 4c.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Observation. There are numerous adult personal hygiene products accessible to children in the bathroom.

Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to products that may be hazardous to their health.

A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

Observation. Several areas of the facility walls and doors are in need of cleaning or repairing. The stove top,stove exhaust top and areas of the kitchen wall have a film of cooking grease on them and are in need of cleaning. Outdoor ride on toys are in need of cleaning.

Corrective action. The manager stated the facility will be fully cleaned and painted during the winter break.

A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Observation. The emergency kit does not contain enough supplies for each child for 72 hours.

Corrective action. Please ensure that there are enough supplies which include food and water for seven children for up to 72 hours.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. The name and contact phone number for a doctor or medical clinic was not available for two children.

Corrective action. Please ensure all children have contact information for a doctor or medical clinic.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

Observation. Absences are not being recorded and no time out had been recorded for November 8, 2022.

Corrective action. Please ensure that absences (eg vacation/sick) are recorded for all children and that time out is recorded every day.

A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The fridge temperature at the time of this inspection was 12c. To ensure safe storage of food please ensure that the fridge temperature is between 0-4c. CCFL recommends that the Licensee purchase a fridge thermometer.

Corrective action. The temperature of the fridge was corrected during this inspection.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. A current criminal record check is not available for the manager. The manager stated that she applied for a new clearance last year but it has not been received. The manager will contact the Criminal Record Review Agency to check the status of her request and if needed will submit a new application.

Corrective action. Please ensure that a valid criminal record check is available for all persons living at the facility address.

A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.

Observation. LO observed and discussed with the manager on site today: Plastic booster seats used by all children during meal/ snack time were not securely installed. LO discussed about following the manufacturer's instructions and be aware of other safety precautions when using booster seats, including recommended age, weight and height limits.

Corrective action. Please ensure that any equipment used by children are safely constructed, free from hazard and in good repair.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

Observation. Two children's files were reviewed; one child's immunization status information was not available.

Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are complete.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.

Observation. There was no log of minor accidents, illness and unexpected events involving children, that did not need medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H. LO learned that it is facility's practice to notify parent verbally when child becomes ill or gets injured while in care. LO discussed about regularly documenting on the logbook for current records.

Corrective action. Please ensure that all children's records are current and complete.

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

Observation. Two children's files were reviewed; Dr's information for both children were missing.

Corrective action. Please ensure all children's files are complete.

The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.

Observation. CRC was not obtained for an individual who is ordinarily present on the premise.

Corrective action. Please ensure that CRC is obtained for anyone over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premise.
