    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area: - The gate leading to the playground did not stay closed. Manager explained that the teachers has a way to keep the gate closed. - The latch on the gate that was leading to the upper balcony was not latching on properly, although it was uneasy to open, it was used as an emergency exit.

    Corrective action. Manager will ensure that the gates can stay closed and be opened properly during emergency

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. There was a hole on the side of the grass by the orange fencing, and uneven grass patches on the other side of the grass.

    Corrective action. Manager said that she will fill the hole with some soil to level it out as a temporary fix. Manager will ensure that the playground surface does not have any tripping hazards.

    Observation. Two children's care plans were not reviewed annually with the parent or any person requested to by the parent.

    Corrective action. Manager said that she will ensue that children's care plans are reviewed with parents annually.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the wooden fence near the gate in the backyard/playground is in disrepair. The panels could be pushed open creating gaps. It is accessible to children and poses potential hazard.

    Corrective action. The Manager said she will have the wooden fence fixed. In the meantime, increase supervision will be implemented to ensure children do not access to the wooden fence area.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed a large doll house abutting the wall next to a large drop off. Large items abutting the wall in the classroom is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-CNSQPN. In the outdoor play area several large play kitchens abutted the outdoor fencing. This could present a climbing hazard.

    Corrective action. Please ensure large items are not placed next to walls or fencing as they may present a potential hazard.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a medication with a drug identification number (DIN) in the first aid kit. Any items with a DIN number are required to have written permission from a parent prior to application. This was been discussed at a previous inspection.

    Corrective action. This item was removed form the first aid kit.

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (b) located so as not to block or hamper an exit in the case of fire or other emergency.

    Observation. During the inspection the following was observed blocking the emergency exit: -A vacuum -A long low shelf filled with several items The emergency exit door was not able to be fully opened. These items were removed during the inspection

    Corrective action. Please ensure you do not locate any objects in front of the emergency exit that could block or hamper the exit in case of an emergency.

    Observation. During the inspection the following was observed: -A kitchen abutted the wall. On the other side was a large drop off (corrected during the inspection) -The Manager office door was unlocked. Inside were loose cords a printer and staff purses. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-CBRTNH.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times to the children in care.

    Observation. During the inspection two rooms were open. One room contained staff bags, a printer and cords. Another room had loose cords that were accessible. These rooms were closed during the inspection.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: -A hole in the wall in the nap room. Dry wall was visible -Paint on the wall was cracking. -Plastic tiles had puncture marks. This is difficult to clean and could potentially harbour bacteria.

    Observation. During the inspection licensing observed rust in the washroom sink, and under the tap and rust on the gate in the outdoor play area. Rust can present a potential health hazard. Please ensure active supervision is provided in these areas until this is fixed.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that are harmful to their health and safety.

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following during the inspection: -A staff member wore one single glove for all of the individual diaper changes. She washed the glove while washing the children's hands but did not remove the glove and wash her hand between diaper changes. -The diaper mat was not disinfected between changing individual children's diapers.

    Corrective action. Please ensure to use new gloves and wash hands between each individual diaper change. Please ensure to disinfect the diaper mat between each individual diaper change to prevent the potential for cross-contamination between children.

    Observation. A child requires medication in an emergency. No recorded instruction was provided by the parents.

    Corrective action. Please ensure any instruction regarding the administration of medication in an emergency, is recorded in a child's care plan.

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: -Beds in the nap room were tightly spaced together. This could cause potential cross contamination. Recommendations for using a safe alternate sleep space were discussed. Please contact licensing if using an alternate space. -metal bars overlooking the downstairs stairwell have large gaps in between the bars. This could present a falling hazard.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

    A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,

    Observation. During the inspection four children under the age of 36 months old were attending the facility. In examining the attendance schedule it was observed that four children under 36 months old were attending each day (Monday to Friday). The Multi-age care code that is on the license permits a maximum of three children under 36 months old at any time.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a maximum of three children under 36 months old are in attendance at one time to comply with the legislation as outlined in Schedule E and to ensure the health and safety of children in care.
