A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation. Upon inspection, licensing observed the gate leading from the outdoor play area to the street was opened. The lock did not latch properly. This is a repeat contravention to report # CLAN-CG3UA8.
Corrective action. The Manager said she will put a reminder sign to close the gate properly and to include checking the gate as part of their outdoor safety check.
11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Upon inspection, licensing observed outdoor play area: - A gap on the bottom of the fence between the facility and the neighbour was larger than 3.5 inches. This poses a potential entrapment. - Rusted metal drawer slides observed in the outdoor play area. (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION)
Corrective action. The Manager said she will put a gate blocking the gap until a permanent fix solution is in place. She said she will ensure the rusted metal drawer slides will not be store in the outdoor play area.

A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation. Cotton towels were hanged for children to dry their hands throughout the day. 1 towel is assigned per child, per day.
Corrective action. Ensure that single-use towels are available and to be used after each hand wash

A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed the following during the inspection: -a bi-fold door did not have a lock and this could cause a pinching hazard. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-C6FR4P. -several bottles of sun block were located at the children's level. This was removed during the inspection -an electrical outlet was covered in duct tape. This could cause a potential hazard.
Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed several broken pieces of lattice fencing with rusty nails protruding from the wood located on the ground. In addition rusty wiring, screws and art clips were observed. Rust can present a potential health hazard. Please ensure active supervision is provided in this area until this is corrected. Options for correcting these items was discussed.
Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. A paper cutter with a sharp blade that was slightly open was located on a low shelf. The paper cutter had a lock but, this was not applied. This was locked during the inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that are hazardous to their health and safety.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed the following during the inspection inside the facility: -A large bottle of hand soap was under the sink in the kitchen. On the label attached to the bottle it was written," keep out of the reach of children". This was corrected during the inspection. -two bi-fold doors did not have bi-fold locks. This could cause a potential pinching hazard. -one bottle of bleach and water solution was being used in the facility. Two bleach and water solution bottles are required, one for the eating area and one for the washroom area. This will reduce the potential for cross-contamination. The following was observed in the out door play area of the facility: -A large climber was located next to a garage and ride on toys. A fall zone of 6 feet around climbing equipment is required.
Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times the children are in care.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - OR SUPERVISION
Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation. During the inspection three children's records were reviewed. One child attending the facility was 26 months old. The facility has a child care facility license for group child care for children 30 months to school age. The minimum age of children attending the facility is required to be 30 months old. In discussion with the Manager she stated that the 26 month old child's family confirmed that their child was 2 and a half years old (30 months). Licensing reminded the Manager that they have a responsibility to review the children's documentation prior to their start date to ensure that children who attend the facility are within the age range listed on the child care facility license.
Corrective action. Please ensure that children attending the facility are within the age range listed on the child care facility license to comply with the legislation.
14020 - CCLR s.34(2)(a) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. The record of fire drills was observed. A fire drill was not recorded for the month of January. The Manager stated that the fire drill was completed at the same time as the evacuation drill. This was not recorded. The fire drill and evacuation drill must be completed seperately. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BQ2TAF.
Corrective action. Please ensure fire drills are practiced and recorded for each month of the year

A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation. Three children's records of seven were reviewed. One child was missing a medical practitioner. Options were discussed.
Corrective action. Please ensure children's records are complete.
19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation. During the inspection seven children were observed at the facility. One child's record was not observed at the facility. In discussion with the staff member she stated that it was the child's first day at the facility. The serious risk to health and safety for the child in care was discussed with both the Manager and the staff. When Licensing was leaving the facility the Manager produced an email record for the child. This record was sent by the child's parent after Licensing's request.
Corrective action. Please ensure children's records are at the child care facility when the child is in attendance.
