    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. 1 child lacked his medical practitioner's contact information.

    Corrective action. All requirements of s.57(2) must be obtained by children's 1st day of care. If a child does not have a doctor, their walk-in clinic's contact information can be documented instead.

  • RECORDS AND REPORTING

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.

    Observation. 1 child lacked his MSP #.

    Corrective action. All requirements of s.57(2) must be obtained by children's 1st day of care. If the MSP is unavailable, this must be stated on the child's file.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. 2 employees' CRCs are addresed to another corporation.

    Corrective action. CRCs must be specific to this facility. Please apply for a CRC share. In the meantime, these employees cannot work alone w/ children or assist w/ diapering/toileting.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed that three panels of the wooden fence in the playground were damaged. They were loose and could be easily pushed open. This poses a potential safety risk if children get their hands caught between them.

    Corrective action. The Manager contacted Licensing to advise the fence has been repaired.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Upon inspecting the physical facility, the following items were observed: - A cover for a ventilation by the entrance has a sharp edge which was at children’s level. Given the young age of the children, it poses potential risk of injury if children bump into it. - (Corrected during inspection) An umbrella stand with pointy edge was exposed in the playground at children’s level. Given the age of the children, it poses potential risk of injury if children fall onto it.

    Corrective action. A safe environment must be provided for children in care. The staff said they will fix the sharp-edged cover. During the inspection, the staff moved the umbrella stand out of the children’s reach.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed a bottle of spray was on a cart at children’s level in the washroom with a label advising to Keep out of children reach.

    Corrective action. (Corrected during inspection) Hazardous objects or substances shall not be accessible to children at all times. The staff removed the spray bottle

  • POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed emergency supplies are insufficient to implement the emergency plan. Limited foods such as granola bars and approximately 5 small bottles of water.

    Corrective action. The staff said she will add more foods and water to the emergency supplies.

    A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

    Observation. Upon reviewing three staffs files, two staff criminal record checks are not site specific, instead, it was a copy addressed to another organization.

    Corrective action. The staff confirmed criminal record checks were not obtained by the Licensee. A follow-up phone call was made to the Manager, who said she will obtain them.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. Licensing observed emergency medication is required for a child in care. There were no written directions from parents or on a care plan regarding the administration of medication.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a care plan and a medical authorization form is signed prior to application of an emergency medication.
