  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. During the inspection licensing observed the following: -Several cleaning products were observed. In reading the instructions on the products the product is required to stay on the surface for 10 minutes to disinfect. Bleach and water are recommended for use -Two bottles filled with bleach and water are required. One bottle is required for the kitchen and one is required for the washroom. This will reduce the potential for cross-contamination.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times to the children in care.

  • MEDICATION

    If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.

    Observation. Licensing observed the items in the first aid kit. Several items that contained a Drug Identification Number (DIN) were observed in the first aid kit. Permission from parents to apply this medication was not observed in the child's record.

    Corrective action. Please ensure to receive permission from parents prior to applying any items with a DIN number

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed the supplies in the emergency kit. Diapers and a sufficient amount of food is required to be added. Diapers were added to the emergency kit during the inspection

    Corrective action. Please ensure the emergency evacuation kit has sufficient emergency supplies to be prepared in case of emergency.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing observed several bottles of medication in a drawer in the kitchen. The Licensee has a gate but this does not cover both sides of the kitchen. The drawer was easily accessible

    A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide.

    Observation. Licensing observed one of the children eating chips for morning snack. In discussion with the Licensee she stated that this is at the request of the family. Licensing requested to review documentation from the family. No documentation was available for review. The Licensee provides snacks and lunches to the children. Chips were not listed as the morning snack on the menu.

    Corrective action. Please ensure to provide each child with healthy food and drink according to the Canada's food guide.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the tag on the fire extinguisher was dated August 2021. The Licensee stated that the fire extinguisher was serviced but the tag was not updated. The fire extinguisher was within the area of fully charged. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BG3PS2

    Corrective action. Please ensure the fire extinguisher is serviced on an annual basis and the date of servicing is updated on the tag to document this occurred.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.

    Observation. During the inspection Licensing measured the temperature of the hot water. The temperature measured was 62.9 Degrees Celsius. In discussion with the Licensee she stated there have been concerns in the building. A plumber has been called and she will turn off the hot water until this is resolved.

    Corrective action. Please ensure heated water that is accessible to children is not heated to more than 49 Degrees Celsius.

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. During the inspection the following was noted in the facility: -a loose cord was noted in the facility. This could cause a potential strangulation hazard -there was a chemical located under the kitchen sink. This could cause a potential poisoning hazard. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-BG3PS2

    Corrective action. Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that are hazardous to their health and safety.

    A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the facility: -several plastic snap together tiles had scratches and puncture marks. This could potetially harbour bacteria and make the tiles difficult to clean.

    Corrective action. Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.

    Observation. Three children's records of three were reviewed. Two children's files were missing one emergency contact and one doctor's name. Licensing recommended recording the number of a walk in clinic if the children does not have a family doctor.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children's records are complete.
