A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.
Observation. One child with a listed allergy and no written instructions from the parents to follow if the child comes into contact with the allergen. As per the Licensee, she was verbally given instructions.
Corrective action. The Licensee will obtain written instructions from the parents.

13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).
Observation. 1 child in attendance with no registration file on-site. As per the Licensee, the child is a neighbour who is attending for the day. Licensing explained that the child requires a registration file with all required information. In addition, the child is counted as ratio and must be recorded on the attendance sheet.
Corrective action. The Licensee will obtain the required information for the child (registration file) before the child attends again.

- STAFFING
The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation. The current homestay student does not have a criminal record check. As per the Licensee, she has not yet applied for one for the individual.
Corrective action. Please ensure any individual over the age of 12 that is ordinarily present at the facility has obtained a criminal record check.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation. The Licensee has commenced patching the walls in the main activity area that were chipped or had exposed gyproc. These areas are now porous and must be sealed (ie: paint) in order for them to be cleaned and sanitized.
Corrective action. The Licensee stated she is planning on painting the areas in the near future.
11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation. Licensing observed several ant traps located on the floor of the main activity room.
Corrective action. While children are in care the ant traps must be removed as the manufacturer has stated these items are to be kept out of reach of children.
11200 - CCLR s.17 - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually however it was fully charged.
Corrective action. Have the fire extinguisher serviced and tagged.

A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation. In discussion with the Licensee annual emergency drills have not been conducted. This type of evacuation drill is different from the fire drills and could include earthquakes, chemical spills, lock down etc.
Corrective action. Ensure a emergency drill is practiced and recorded on an annual basis.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. During the inspection the following was observed inside the facility: -a portable heater was on and placed close to the couch. A child had his feet placed on top of the heater. The heater was hot to the touch.The Licensee and Licensing discussed the concern to health and safety and the heater was removed during the inspection. -the gate leading to the basement was not secured. This could cause a potential falling hazard. This was corrected during the inspection -an ice pack was missing from the first aid kit. -Two electrical outlets were missing plug covers The following was observed outside the facility in the play area: -two frames used for plants had rust on them. This could cause a potential health hazard. The Licensee will remove these items.
Corrective action. Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times

A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation. During the inspection the water temperature was measured at 54.9 degrees celsius.
Corrective action. Please ensure hot water is heated to no more than 49 degrees celsius to comply with the legislation.
11230 - CCLR s.47 - NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES
A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.
Observation. Snack was served to the children during the inspection. The Licensee stated that she is in the process of creating a menu to share with the parents. At the current time she only completes the menu for her information.
Corrective action. Please ensure the parents/guardians are made aware of any food and drink that is provided to their children.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (f) a log of minor accidents, illnesses and unexpected events involving children, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.
Observation. During the inspection the Licensee stated she did not have a log book for logging minor incidents
Corrective action. Please ensure to have a log book at the facility to record minor incidents if they occur.

Observation. Four out of seven children's records were reviewed. One child's reord was missing information on their immunization status.
