    Observation. One child present without a registration file on-site (emergency consent card was available). As per the Licensee, she has made multiple attempts to obtain the registration form from the family.

    Corrective action. The Licensee will obtain the registration form from the family.

    A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).

    Observation. Upon reviewing registration files, the Licensee's child that is under 12 years old does not have a registration file. As per the Licensee, she was unaware that her child needed one. Licensing explained that her child is part of ratio and requires a registration file on-site.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all children in care have a current registration file.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The Licensee's child that is under 12 years old was on-site today, but was not signed in. As per the Licensee, she did not know that she had to sign in/out her own child. Licensing explained that her child is part of ratio and whenever they are on-site must be signed in and out. The Licensee then recorded her child's attendance on the attendance sheet.

    Corrective action. Please ensure all children are signed in and out daily.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a bottle of hand sanitizer and air freshner on counters accessible to children. Upon notifying the Licensee, she immediately placed the bottles in an area that no longer makes them accessible to children.

    Corrective action. Please ensure hazardous objects or substances are not accessible to children.

  • NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES

    A licensee must ensure that children are not (c) left unsupervised while consuming food or drink.

    Observation. Licensing observed that while the children were eating lunch, the Licensee was conducting the toileting routine in the bathroom. With how the layout is for the lunch table and location of the bathroom, the Licensee does not have a direct sightline of the children as they eat. Licensing explained the importance of supervising children while they eat and and suggested moving the lunch table closer to the bathroom to ensure supervision.

    Corrective action. Please ensure children are supervised while consuming food or drink.

    Observation. As per the Licensee, she provides 2 snacks a day for the children and verbally notifies parents, but does not have a written snack menu that is provided to parents.

    A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

    Observation. Upon reviewing the emergency food supply and water, there is an insufficient quantity to sustain all children and program staff or at least 72 hours.

    Corrective action. Please ensure a sufficient amount of emergency food and water is available in the emergency kit.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.

    Observation. Upon reviewing children's files, one child has allergies. The child's file describes the symptoms that will appear when the allergens are ingested, but there are no follow-up instructions to instruct the Licensee in the case that the child ingests the allergens.

    Corrective action. Please ensure instructions are obtained from the parents regarding follow-up actions relating to the child's allergies.

    A licensee must notify the medical health officer within 24 hours after (a) a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H while under the care or supervision of the licensee.

    Observation. Upon reviewing the incident logbook, an incident that happened in April 2023 that required care by a medical practitioner was not reported to Licensing. The Licensee was not aware of the reportable incident procedure. Education and resources were provided relating to reportable incidents.

    Corrective action. Please ensure licensing is notified within 24 hours after a child is involved or may have been involved in reportable incident described in Schedule H.
