- MEDICATION
If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation. Medication on site for two children in care had no record of administration forms having been completed. In addition there was one expired medication, and medication for two children in care who no longer attend.
Corrective action. Licnsee will consider and develop a system for medication adminstration.
16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation. Licensing reviewed the fire and emergency drills, and found that there was no record of them having been documented. Licensing said that they have been completed, but not documented.
Corrective action. Licensee will review systems for ensuring the records are documented as needed.
13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation. Licensing reviewed 10 children's files, of those files the 1 was missing record of immunization.
Corrective action. Licensee will review and create systems for ensuring records are up to date.
19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation. 10 files were reviewed, of those two files did not contain a photo or digital image.
Corrective action. Licensee will review records and create a system for ensuring the photos are on file.
19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - RECORDS AND REPORTING
A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support.
Observation. Licensing reviewed seven care plans all of which did not contain a course of action as recommended by the health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support. In addition, the care plan had not been developed in consultation with the parents.
Corrective action. Licensee was able to demonstrate they are in the process of developing care plans with the parents and will provide written response when complete.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection licensing observed the planter which was placed at the access point to prevent access to children was moved, making the deck where the hot tub was stored was made accessible. Upon further inspection, the hot tub locks were not engaged providing access to the hot tub. Children had not yet been playing in the yard on the day of the inspection. The licensee corrected this at the time of inspection.
Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].
Observation. Criminal Record Check is not current (expired) for one or more employees.

- EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS
A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation. Licensing observed one of the planters preventing access to the deck was moved. The hot tub was sufficiently locked however the deck was not made inaccessible as part of the prevention measures. Please include systems into your daily outdoor playground checks to ensure that the deck is made inaccessible and the hot tub latches are checked to ensure they locked. This was addressed prior to writing of the report.
Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation. The fire extinguishers annual maintenance had not yet been completed at the time of inspection. The licensee had requested the service company come complete the maintenance however they were delayed.
Corrective action. Please ensure to have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for and mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergencies. Licensee had completed the service prior to the writing of the report.
13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation. One employee file was reviewed and the criminal record check had expired. Licensee was not aware the CRC had expired.
Corrective action. Please ensure to have current crc on file.
12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - STAFFING
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation. One employee file was reviewed and the validation of the certificate was missing from file. Licensing included link to validation form on the registry website in email sent with the Inspection report.
Corrective action. Please ensure to verify early childhood educator or assistant certificates by the systems maintained by the early childhood educator registry.
