A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Observation. Licensing observed a hole in the plastic surfacing of the change pad surface, preventing thorough sanitizing.

Corrective action. The licensee said they will replace the change pad on or before September 19th, 2025

A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

Observation. Licensing reviewed the files of 9 children, of those 1 file did not contain permission from parent for the facility to call a medical practitioner, or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

Corrective action. Licensee said they will obtain permission from the parent today.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.

Observation. Of two employee files reviewed, one file did not contain a criminal record check. The licensee said this person works when they need a back up.

Corrective action. Licensee said they had sent in the application and it has not yet been received, and will follow up on this. The licensee said the employee will not be working on site until this is obtained.

A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)

Observation. Validation for one employee's early childhood educator certificate had not been obtained.

Corrective action. Licensee will secure record of validation this evening.
