Health & safety record

3 critical and 8 non-critical findings recorded since 2021.

May 20, 2025Routine Inspection1 critical, 3 non-critical
  • C3.2 - Are persons qualified and appropriately replaced?Critical

Observation. - There was no evidence that the renewed ECE certificate for the Manager had been validated by the Licensee. *Corrected during the inspection.*

  • C2.1 - Are written policies and procedures in place to guide employees in all matters regarding the care and supervision of children?Non-critical

Observation. - As per the emergency evacuation plan for the facility, non-expired non-perishable food was not readily available in the evacuation kit. In addition, some supplies in the first aid kit, to disinfect wounds, were expired. *Correction date: May 26, 2025.* - There was no record indicating that the large scale evacuation plan had been practiced annually. *Correction date: May 31, 2025.* - The written repayment agreement did not include the terms or conditions on which a refund of any or all of the prepayment of fees will be made to the parents should there be any interruption to the operation of the facility. A copy of this written repayment agreement, that details all of the terms or conditions, must be provided to all parents at the time of enrollment. *Correction date: May 31, 2025.* Fire drills were practiced monthly and the record was displayed as required.

  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

Observation. - The Manager stated that the large scale evacuation emergency plan had not been practiced in the last year. Practising the large scale evacuation plan annually ensures that the Licensee's plan minimizes the risk to children during an emergency. *Correction date: May 31, 2025.*

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

Observation. - There was no evidence that the fire safety equipment (i.e. extinguisher) had been inspected in the last year to ensure that it is in good repair. *Correction date: May 31, 2025*.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

Observation. - Some child emergency records were missing the sex of the child, which is an identifying feature, and emergency contacts other than the parents. *Resolved during the inspection. The Licensing Officer reviewed other record keeping systems in place such as the daily attendance records, minor incident log, play space inspection log, etc. and they appeared satisfactory.

August 9, 2022Routine Inspection2 critical, 3 non-critical
  • C3.2 - Are persons qualified and appropriately replaced?Critical

Observation. - Evidence regarding the validation of an employee's training certificate was missing from the file.

  • C10.2 - Are children supervised, and are employee to children ratios maintained?Critical

Observation. - Upon arrival at the facility, Licensing observed 2 school age children outside alone and doing a puzzle on the play yard patio. Licensing asked the children if they were allowed to be outside alone and they both said yes. While the entry door to the facility and adjacent to the patio had been left open about 12 inches, Licensing observed the 2 children outside alone for 10 minutes. Upon entering the facility, Licensing observed the manager caring for 7 other school age children inside. Licensing explained the purpose of the visit to the manager and explained that children being left alone outside is a contravention to Section 39(1) of the Child Care Licensing Regulation which requires that children in care be supervised at all times. The manager resolved this contravention during the inspection by bringing the 2 children inside with the rest of the group. During the inspection, Licensing observed 9 children and the manager present in the Group Child Care (School Age) program. The Preschool program does not operate in the summer months.

  • C3.1 - Does the facility have sufficient employees who possess adequate training and experience to meet the care, supervision, and needs of the children?Non-critical

Observation. - The criminal record check required for an employee was expired.

  • C4.1 - Are facility records current and complete?Non-critical

Observation. - Some child records were missing information required to readily identify the child in an emergency (i.e. photos and sex of the child). - Play space inspection log had no entries since July 25/22. Other record keeping systems were reviewed by Licensing and they appeared satisfactory.

  • C7.1 - Is the facility safe, sanitary, free from hazards, in good repair, and appropriate for the age and development of children?Non-critical

Observation. - Upon arrival at the facility, Licensing observed the outside gate, which provides access to the street level, not latched securely.
