A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].
Observation. Manager informs that an all purpose sanitizing spray is being used during the day, and after the children leave for the day, bleach solution is used. LO was also informed that the diaper change mat is sprayed with bleach solution in between use. A conversation was had in regards to a cleaning procedure is required prior to the sanitizing with bleach. A separate set of spray bottles should also be provided for activity area and bathroom, to minimize cross contamination. Manager intends to use soap solution, and bleach solution in place of the current all purpose spray.

Observation. Licensing observed a record of fire drills. Manager informs that it was not practiced in November. The January drill is planned to be implemented on January 30. Manager was unable to locate the record for the last emergency drill, and planning to implement one soon. A conversation was had in regards to keeping records together on the same sheet for convenience of access, particularly when the program operates on a school year calendar.

Observation. Fire extinguisher is current in its servicing, a reminder that it will be due at the end of March 2024. Emergency preparedness supplies are available, however, all water have expired.

Observation. Licensing observed several loose cords throughout the facility including the fan and extension cord by the art sink, string lights on top of the cubbies and the cord for the light table. Licensing observed unlabelled spray bottles. Men's washroom was unlocked and is being used for storage.

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction. They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]
Observation. Licensing observed a large shelf in the dramatic play area was not secured. The cubbies, sink countertop and some shelves were observed to be cluttered and creating a tipping hazard. More clearance is needed around the wooden climbing structure inside the classroom. The resilient mats underneath the wooden climbing structure are too thin in the fall zones.

Observation. Licensing observed the rear fire exit was blocked by bouncing toy at the bottom and a build-up of items where noted on the top of the stairs blocking the exterior exit.

Observation. *Licensing observed expired medication for one child requiring asthma inhaler.

A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].
Observation. *Fridge temperature= 4'C- good! *Licensing observed two entryways to a kitchen and was informed that although there are no locks on the doors they remain closed at all times. A kitchen cabinet was observed to be unsecured and contained a natural cleaning product. Licensing requires either a child proof lock on the doors or a chime system to ensure safety. *A large collection of garbage and recycling items were located in a hallway. This poses a health and hygiene issue. *A loose extension cord on the corner of the stage was observed to be loose and accessible to the children. This poses a possible risk of entanglement (corrected during inspection). *Licensing observed two unsecured bi-fold closet doors located in the main room. This poses a possible risk of finger pinching. * Items are currently being stored behind curtains on the stage and also in the main activity room. Licensing was informed that these items are currently being sorted and removed, however the curtains need to be secured on the sides and adjusted in length to prevent children from entering the area.

Observation. *Licensing observed a current log book in the facility, however there are large gaps in recorded dates and was missing information in regards to illness and minor incidents.

Observation. *Licensing was informed that although staff have been conducting play ground safety checks before use, the process is not being documented.

Observation. *Licensing observed an expired first aid certificate for one staff. Licensing was informed that the staff has a current first aid certificate but was unable to access the document during today's inspection. *Two staff members do not have proof of criminal record checks on site. Licensing was informed that both staff members have current CRC's but they are difficult to access as they are located via an app system. A discussion was had about the importance of being able to access files and that the specific app being used may not be the best system for the program. *ECEA and ECE certifications were missing for two staff.
