Observation. Manager informs that an abundance of vines are stretching over from the green space on the other side of the playground fence, belonging to the City. These plants have a small berry that resembles blueberries, but are not edible. Manager provides supervision and education to children in order to prevent accidental consumption, while trimming when they can. Since it was observed to be overgrown at the time of inspection, a conversation was had in regards to the potential of scheduling a routine maintenance trim, in order to prevent potential health and safety risk.

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction. They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]
Observation. *The area and wooden logs around the sandbox beneath the deck appear to have suffered water damage and ongoing leaking into the sandbox itself creating concerns of deteriorating logs (splinters), soft rot and mildew. *During today's visit water was observed to be spraying out and could be heard gurgling from outside / beneath the building under where the kitchen sink is located creating concern of flooding and rot / mildew beneath the building.

Observation. *CCFL observed a few loose and accessible cords; the cord from the hepa filter, the cord from the owl aromatherapy vaporizer and an orange extension cord hanging down from the back deck outside. These loose cords pose the possibility of entanglement. *A backpack containing the personal items of one of the educators was observed in an unlocked cabinet at children's level in the dramatic play area (housekeeping). Personal belongings may contain hazardous items such as medications.

Observation. *There is a rotten wooden board on the top platform of the play structure above the slatted climbing wall. This area is slated for repair in the near future and is temporarily blocked off from use by a piece of yellow caution tape.

Observation. *Licensing observed loose and unsecured cords near the aquarium in the main activity room. This is an entanglement hazard. *Several fans located throughout the facility were observed to have screens large enough for a finger to poke through.

The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]
Observation. *Licensing observed rotting stumps throughout the entire outdoor play yard. *The blackberry bushes are overgrown around the railing on one of the stairs/platforms. *The Manager reports that there were atypical issues with drainage and flooding this past year which has eroded away much of the earth around the tree roots and stairs on the hill. The result is that the steps are now too high for children and the earth has become hard-packed beneath making the area risky for falls. In wet weather the area is not useable and the Manager has described the area as a "waterfall".

Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]
Observation. *The "shake-out" earthquake drill has been practiced twice in the past year. *The Manager reports that monthly fire drills have not been being conducted because the elementary school has ceased practicing fire drills. In the past, the childcare facility participated in fire drills that were cued by the school.
