There is an established program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene. [CCLR Sec. 46(1)]
Observation. Licensing observed an Educator wearing disposable gloves coming out of the bathroom with a child. The Educator then poured a glass of milk for the child while wearing the same gloves. Licensing asked about the gloves and was informed that the Educator had worn them while helping a child wash their hands. Licensing informed of the concern of cross contamination considering the Educator's continued wearing of the gloves after a hand washing routine in the bathroom followed by the serving of a drink for the child. In response, the Educator removed the gloves as well as the glass of milk. Another Educator informed that they would give the child another cup of milk while the other Educator returned to the bathroom to wash their hands. This observation was discussed with the Manager during the inspection.

Observation. Licensing observed the door to the laundry room left open. A bleach bottle was observed accessible on the counter. In response, an Educator closed the laundry room door. An Educator was present in the room with children who were sleeping. A discussion occurred with another Educator as to whether Educators are always present in the nap room when children are sleeping. The Educator informed that there are times when an Educator is not always present, that the baby monitor is used. A discussion occurred about the monitor's cord and children's access to it. The Educator informed that the baby monitor once was positioned on top of the CD player which is located on a shelf and that it would be something to implement again.
