  Licensing is notified within 24 hours after a child is involved in, or may have been involved in, a reportable incident described in Schedule H or has a reportable communicable disease. [CCLR Sec.55(2)(a)(b)]

  Observation. Licensing Officer observed a July 18, 2024 entry in the 3-5 log book describing how a child in care got sand in their eye. Staff informed Mom, Mom arrived at the centre and took the child home. Staff then informed Licensing and asked if it was necessary to submit an incident report. L O stated that it wasn't necessary unless the child received medical attention. It became evident at a later date that the child was taken to ER and received eye drops. Staff attempted to contact licensing but was not able to reach an LO. During this inspection L O stated that an incident report must be submitted.

  The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

  Observation. In the parent room, LO observed 3 leather chairs in poor repair and no longer easy to clean. The leather on each seat is worn, peeling, flaking and each seat cushion is covered with a towel. In addition, the edges of the arm rest are ripped and torn exposing the inner material. Manager stated that there is a plan in place to have the leather chairs replaced.

  Play materials and/or equipment are not safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)(b)]

  Observation. In the outdoor play space, LO observed that the wooden stumps and logs are deteriorating and are in poor repair. Manager stated that there is a plan in place to have the deteriorated wood in the playground addressed.

  For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]

  Observation. LO observed a care plan for a child with a life threatening allergy has not been updated since November 2020. Discussion took place with Manager with regards to updating the care plans on an annual basis. In addition, LO recommends that a copy of the care plan be kept with the child's epi-pen in the First Aid back pack.
