    All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

    Observation. *Due to the presence of a wasp nest tucked into one of the wooden structures in the outside play yard, children were playing in the neighbouring yard at Chinook 2. Educators report a work order has been submitted. *A set of string lights under the covered area has been looped around an electrical box about 1/2 way up the wall creating an entanglement hazard. Furniture placed at the base provides access. *Garden tools such as shovels and rakes were observed to be leaning up against a tree under the covered area with only a cardboard piece of cardboard placed in front. This is not an adequate barrier.

    Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]

    Observation. *Fire drills have not been practiced or documented since May 2023. CCFL to follow up on this item in 2 month's time.

    Observation. *Licensing observed the spray cleaner bottles were accessible to children on the edges of the kitchen and bathroom counter. *At the time of this visit, the children's cubby area was being used to store 2 strollers and 3 sleep mats.

    Observation. *The entire wooden climbing structure is showing serious deterioration. Many of the support beams are rotten and the railings have become rough and have slivers. Licensing observed a hole in one of the decks that could possibly become an entrapment or tripping hazard. *The children can access a neighbouring play yard by climbing unnoticed through the playhouse window. The Manager reports that a flower planter used to be in the window (blocking any potential exit) but it has been removed due to disrepair.
