    All indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children, safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair. [CCLR Sec. 16(4)]

    Observation. A nail sticking out of the wooden fence was noticed by Educators in the morning while conducting the daily yard check. Licensing informed that a work order has been submitted for this to be fixed. Educators have placed a barrier in front to refrain children from touching in the meantime.

    For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]

    Observation. Licensing observed a medical care plan for one child to be missing information including location of epi-pen and other required information.

    The licensee keeps a current record for each child showing the information required. [CCLR Sec. 57]

    Observation. Licensing observed 2 children to be missing medical practitioner information, and one child to be missing an emergency contact other than a parent. Facility has transitioned into an electronic system for children's records, which can sometimes be missing information that is available in the main files at the office. Licensing recommends transferring all required information from the main files at the head office, to the files accessed by Educators at the facility in order to provide consistency.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following in the outdoor play area: - The wooden step at the entry into the sandbox is loose and wobbly. This item is unstable. - Wood surrounding the sandbox appears to be rotting due to age, in addition to several other areas including garden beds and wooden stumps.

    Observation. Licensing observed large rubber tires around the playground for play, that contain standing water.

    Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]

    Observation. Fire drills are being completed and recorded monthly. Facility has not implemented an emergency plan in the past 12 months.

    The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

    Observation. *The bench in the outdoor playground has a loose, mushy plank and protruding nail heads. *The wooden gate that separates Chuva from Sade is crumbling from the top down because of water damage and age. *There are several severely rotten, mushy stumps in the outdoor play yard. *The wooden barrier around the sandbox has protruding nails and is crumbling from age.

    A healthy and safe environment is provided at all times [CCLR Sec. 13(1)].

    Observation. *The cord to the fan in the nap room was observed to be loose on the floor. This creates the possibility of an entanglement hazard. *CCFL observed a garden hose that was wrapped around a post in a haphazard fashion creating an entanglement hazard.

    Equipment, furniture and supplies are located so as not to block or hamper exits in the case of fire or other emergency. [CCLR Sec. 15(1)(b)]

    Observation. *The sliding door leading from the nap room to the outdoors was observed to have a barrier gate as well as an additional shelf in front of it. This creates an issue with safe/quick egress but also gives children access to climb over the barrier.

    There is current log of minor incidents, illnesses and unexpected events, that did not require medical attention and were not reportable incidents described in Schedule H. [CCLR Sec. 56 (1)(f)]

    Observation. *CCFL did not observe any entries in the logbook from October 2021 until February 2, 2022. A discussion was held with the Manager in regards to the importance of documenting every minor illness or injury.
