Observation. Licensing observed several children's files to be missing information including medical practitioner information, start date, and immunization status.

Implementation of the fire drill system is practiced at least once each month, and implementation of the emergency plan is practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(b)(c)]
Observation. Licensing observed a fire drill log documenting practices. Staff inform that it was not completed in September, as indicated on the fire drill record. October was conducted, and plans are in place to implement a November drill either today or tomorrow. Staff inform that an emergency drill has not been conducted this year.

Observation. *A first aid kit is available within the facility however it was indicated that it is not brought along on the walk to get to Norma Rose School in the mornings. A discussion was held with the educator for this program that even though it is a short walk, there is always the possibility of needing a first aid kit or emergency information for a child.

Observation. *There is old, gummy duct tape stuck to the chains of the swings where children might hold on. This may provide a breeding ground for bacteria and germs. *Pieces of wood, rolled up carpet, gutters and furniture were stacked in the corner of the outside covered area.

Observation. *Due to the fact that there is no day to day manager for this program, there was no staff available to accompany CCFL from Chinook to the Chinook 2 space. Because of this, the cupboard was locked and CCFL was unable to access evidence of staff documentation, children's records, fire drill and playground maintenance records, log book and other items, etc.

This may provide an opportunity for bacteria and germs to form. *A fire pit and stacks of wood were observed in the children's play yard. *Old water logged landscape bags of garden compost were observed to be piled up under the covered area.

Observation. *The gap on the fence side of the green shed provides a supervision issue in that there are no sight lines and the fence is very low and climbable. CCFL has concerns that children may slip behind the shed and easily leave the play yard unnoticed. *The latch on the gate is easily accessible to children and is not secure. *The wooden bridge is rotting along the edges and and is missing a slat in the middle. This creates the possibility of foot entrapment.

Observation. *Licensing inquired as to how Educators will access the UBC emergency preparedness supplies in the event of a true emergency such as an earthquake. The Educator was able to tell Licensing where the supplies were, but did not know how to gain access to the storage container.
