- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGEnvironmentNon-critical
The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction. They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]
Observation. Licensing observed the overall program would required a thorough deep cleaning. This includes: -Main activity room carpet -Multi purpose room carpet -Naproom carpet -Washroom counters -Kitchen counters -Kitchen sink -Handwashing sink -Cabinet doors -The fridge -Other frequently touched surfaces such as door handles. A conversation occurred with the Manager that Licensing is aware that there are only two staff members meeting the ratio, which may make it difficult to complete all cleaning tasks while children are onsite. Therefore, it is suggested to arrange for a proper helper / cleaners regularly to assist with these tasks or preparations, ensuring a healthy and safe environment for the children at all times. Additionally, the Manager has informed that a new vacuum is on the way to maintaining cleanliness.
- PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGPlay Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical
The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]
Observation. Licensing observed that the outdoor play space requires a thorough clean-up and improved organization. The push cars, loose parts, pretend-kitchen toys, and other materials had been left outside overnight. The Manager mentioned that the upstairs tenant occasionally accesses the playground after business hours. To address these concerns, the Manager has confirmed that a proper storage bin with a secure lid will be provided to ensure all toys are stored safely overnight, preventing any potential animal exposure or damage by others.
- POLICIES AND PROCEDURESEmergency Training and EquipmentNon-critical
There is an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency. [CCLR Sec. 22(1)(b)]
Observation. Emergency preparedness supplies are sufficient to meet the needs of the children and staff for a minimum of 72 hours. However, the water appears to be expired.
- STAFFINGCharacter and skill requirementsNon-critical
A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry [CCLR Sec. 19(4)(a)]
Observation. One staff certification has not yet been verified through the ECE Registry website.
