  Observation. Licensing observed a lighter, screwdriver and batteries in an unlocked kitchen drawer.

  The emergency plan is not practiced at least once each year. [CCLR Sec. 22(2)(c)]

  Observation. Monthly fire drills were conducted and recorded.

  The licensee keeps a current record for each child showing the information required. [CCLR Sec. 57]

  Observation. Licensing observed an attendance record, with a sign in and sign out system at the entrance. Upon arrival at the inspection, 3 children were signed in, with 7 children in attendance. Licensee informed that families usually sign the children in and out, however, when they forget, the Licensee will fill the records at a later time. A conversation was had regarding the importance of this document being filled as soon as possible, for the accuracy of attendance, along with arrival and departure times.

  Maintenance of Equipment: A log is kept of all inspections, maintenance and repairs. [Director of Licensing Standard of Practice - Safe Play Space]

  Observation. A daily inspection is implemented of the outdoor space, however, a record is not kept.

  All persons over the age of 12 that are ordinarily present on the premises while children are present are of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for each person. [CCLR Sec 20]

  Observation. Licensee could not locate a copy of the criminal record check for a current practicum student.

• STAFFING / Character and skill requirementsNon-critical

  A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry [CCLR Sec. 19(4)(a)]

  Observation. Licensee could not locate copies of the two certificate verifications, having recently moved to this new location and setting up the office space. It is recommended for the verifications to be printed, and kept with the ECE certificates for convenience.
