    Observation. Licensing observed the following: 1. Multiple garbage and recycling bins were observed within the children's play area. The licensee has acknowledged and confirmed that the bins will be relocated to a location that is out of children's reach to prevent any potential hazards. 2. A portable potty was located under the staircase in the play area. It is recommended that this item be relocated to avoid any confusion for the children and to uphold hygienic conditions within the play environment. 3. The slide currently positioning in the area that were insufficient fall zone surrounding the slide, which could increase the risk of injury. 4. The sand play area is presently uncovered. It is important to provide sand cover to maintain cleanliness and prevent animals access at night. A conversation occurred with the Licensee on monitoring certain potential hazards in the outdoor play area: - There are three vehicle wheels in the sand play area. Please monitor the gaps in the rims as they may pose an entrapment hazard. - A variety of toys were observed outdoors. For hygiene purposes, it is recommended to store them away by the end of the day to prevent access by animals such as cats or raccoons.

    Observation. Licensing observed seven children in care. Two children were over 4 years of age and five children were under 4 years of age. Of these five children under 4 years of age one child turns 4 the end of January. A discussion was held with the Licensee regarding ages and numbers of children that comply with Schedule E and to apply for an exemption until the end of January.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: 1) Potties with standing pee in the bathroom. A discussion was held with the Licensee to clean and sanitize the potties immediately after each use. The Licensee responded that children use the bathroom independently. The Licensee does not always know when a child has used the potty, as they are supervising in the activity room. A discussion was held for the Licensee to check the potties after children have used the bathroom or to refrain from using potties and use the toilet. 2) A kitchen counter with chipped laminate exposing the wood underneath. The wood was in chipped condition. The Licensee provides all snacks and lunches for the children in care.

The broken pieces were discarded at the time of inspection. - A wet, dirty area rug under the Gazebo that had reached the end of its lifespan. The Licensee stated they will remove the carpet in spring when it is dry and plans to install rubber tiles in this area. - Bricks, broken plastic bin, broken pieces of ceramic tile, various discarded construction materials/debris, broken wheelbarrow, rolls of plastic mesh, broken drawers behind and beside the shed and around the gate to the lane. A discussion was held with the Licensee to keep the entire yard clean and remove all debris. - An unsecured metal arbor that posed a risk of tipping over. A discussion was held with the Licensee to remove or secure the metal arbor to prevent injury to a child.

    Observation. On January 9, 2024 Licensing observed the following: 1) The main activity space has a very cluttered art / table top area. Materials are stacked on top of each other on the shelves and on the piano, posing a risk of falling onto a child. Children are unable to access the art area materials as the area is overcrowded. A portable playpen was set up in the art/ table top area. A discussion was held with the Licensee to declutter this part of the activity space. 2) The wood stairs to the entrance of the facility has a rotten step that is a tripping hazard. Licensing observed on February 9 that the steps have been repaired.

    Observation. On January 9, 2024 Licensing observed the following: 1) A new home is being constructed next door. Licensing observed a temporary construction fence in the front yard. The wood fence in the backyard is still standing, however the first 4 x 4 fence post was not secured in the ground and was loosely leaning against the fence panel. This heavy post could fall over and injure a child. The fence panel is not secured where the post is missing and poses a risk of falling over. On February 9, licensing observed that the wood 4 x 4 post and the fence have been secured. 2) A black metal bench that was positioned in a vey wobbly manner and posed a risk of falling onto a child. 3) A pile of construction tiles by the back gate.

Licensing observed debris, empty garden pots, plastic bins and buckets, tires wrapped in plastic, wet moldy pieces of carpet. These items pose a tripping hazard. A discussion was held with the Licensee to do a thorough yard clean up. This appears to be a recurring contravention that was observed in 2022 and 2020. On March 6, 2023 Licensing observed a landscaper at work in the backyard doing a thorough clean up.

    Observation. The Licensees records indicated that playground inspections had been conducted, including the backyard. However the actual condition of the outdoor backyard was not in compliance (see comment above) and not in congruence with the record. This appears to be a recurring contravention that was observed in 2022.
