Observation. Licensing observed that the playground ground surface has started to become uneven due to tree roots growing beneath the surface. Two rugs have been placed over the exposed tree roots. This poses a potential tripping hazard.

Due to the wet weather the sandbox is currently not used. Sand will be replenished in March. The sand box cover had several inches of dirty standing water.

Another staff did not have a valid criminal record clearance letter under the Criminal Records Review Act in the name of St. James Daycare. They had a valid criminal record clearance letter from another centre. Please be advised that licensing cannot authorize anyone to be ordinarily present without a valid criminal record clearance letter and that the onus is on the Licensee St James Daycare Centre to obtain a clearance letter prior to employment.

The staffing list indicated that this staff has a valid criminal a record check.

Observation. One child in care did have an Epi-Pen. The child's allergy was posted in the kitchen. No Anaphylaxis care plan was in place. The Licensee had developed a limited care plan for another child. No medical diagnosis is in place. Observations by medical professionals are scheduled for February and March. A discussion was held to expand the care pan before the end of February with the parent to include all the support strategies staff are putting in place as well as recommendations from professionals. It is recommended to have BC Centre of Ability involved.
