  For each child requiring extra support, the licensee keeps a current care plan showing the required information. [CCLR Sec. 58(1)(2)]

  Observation. There are two children who have an allergy noted in their files. Staff stated that only one of them has any allergy. If a child has an allergy noted it must be taken seriously. If there is no need for staff to do anything, have the parent note that in the file. It is always concerning to have information on a file that staff are not aware of. It is also important to note that there is no additional information available for this child's allergy. While there is a note at the front door stating a single food that is not available, the file lists additional foods that this child cannot have. Many people may not be aware of the link between these foods and the risks to the child(ren). Also, all staff should be reviewing children's files to ensure any information shared by parent is accurate and staff are fully knowledgeable in all areas of children's care. Some areas to think about include - what each child cannot have, what is the plan if staff see that food in a child's meal, what are the symptoms to look for, and what do staff do if there are symptoms. Remember, there may be subs or different staff on site and a detailed care plan should be known by all staff.
