    Observation. Licensing observed the children freely moving throughout their spaces and given the opportunity to play with toys/activities of their choices. However, in the Unicorn room, the amount of play materials appeared to be inadequate to support the needs of the children. Following play materials were observed during today's visit: *art supplies (papers, scissors, colored pencils, etc.) *several puzzles and board games *books This observation was shared with the program director. A discussion was held to provide an adequate amount of play materials to support the needs of the children in the Unicorn room.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following: -Laurel room: one incomplete care plan (i.e. Medication expiry date, medication storage, etc.) -Unicorn room: 2 incomplete care plans (i.e. no photo of a child, no parent signatures)

    Observation. In the Laurel room, Licensing observed no record in place to account for fire drill occurring for the month of November 2025.

    Observation. In the Orca room, Licensing was unable to locate an inhaler for a child. In the Unicorn room, Licensing observed an expired medication - staff informed that the parent will provide them with a new medication.

    Observation. In the Orca room, Licensing was unable to locate a care plan for a child with an inhaler. Additionally, Licensing recommends having a copy of children's care plans attached to their medication so the required information is readily accessible for staff members when care is being provided.

    Observation. Licensing observed a child requiring extra support colour on a staff's paper the staff said to the child "why you do that to me, if you do that to me, I do it to you." The staff then continued to say the the child you should say sorry to me, as I'm still sad, I'm not going to sing, I'm waiting for that word from someone who write on my paper." A little while later the child wanted to sit next to the staff and the staff said to the child "you want to sit next to me- you can't draw on my paper." The child wanted to sit at a different table and the staff kept saying I want to sit at this table, the child brought a chair over to the table for the staff, but the staff said I want to sit here and continued to sit at the table and colour their picture.

    The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

    Observation. Licensing observed that the kitchen in the Laurel room appeared cluttered and in need of a clean. The counters and the sink were dirty. It also appears that the kitchen is being used as storage. Licensing also saw green tape on the counters that was pealing. Licensing observed that the material on the leather couch in the Laurel room was cracked and pealing exposing the material underneath.

    The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

    Observation. Licensing observed that a section of the fence enclosing the outdoor play area was knocked down.

    Observation. Two of the three out of school care programs operate in the rooms that the preschool uses, and LO observed that the rooms are very preschool-focused. There was no school age appropriate furniture in the room and very limited school age toys, equipment and supplies. Some of the shelves were covered and only allowed to be used for the Preschool. The artwork on display is from the preschool children.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the rooms had current log books, however one room had not documented since April, 2023 and another rooms last entry was September 19, 2023

    Observation. Licensing observed in the Unicorn and Orca room's, after washing their hands the children sat at tables waiting for the staff to bring them snack. The staff served the children plates of food that had already been prepared. Children were not given the option to chose what they wanted or how much they wanted. For example one room had Teddy Grahams and 3 slices of orange on a plate and one room had a Nutri Grain Bar and two slices of cucumber. This is not meeting the individual needs of the children or age and developmentally appropriate for school age children.
