  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. Licensing observed the following: *loose electrical cord by the children's bathroom. This could pose as a tripping hazard. *several pieces of tape being applied to secure a floor mat in the cozy corner/area. This tape appeared to be no longer easy to clean and in good repair.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / EnvironmentNon-critical

The facility, the furniture, equipment, fixtures and supplies are of sturdy and safe construction.  They are easy to clean, and are clean and in good repair and free from hazards. [CCLR Sec. 13(2) and Sec. 15(1)(a)]

Observation. Observed a number of brown stained marks as well as a hole about the shape of a shoe box on the ceiling in the main activity area. Manager reported there has been a series of leaks in the co-op units above. The co-op maintenance company has come in and viewed the damage but there has been no further communication re the source of leak, whether or not the leak has been repaired or mitigation of the damage. There has been some concern regarding mold. The cover on the heat element in the main activity room is of concern. It was warm to touch today and the middle plate covering the elements was moveable, exposing sharp edges and opening for small fingers. Noted the children's cots were placed against this heat cover and of course the children are playing on the floor throughout the day. Observed the paint throughout is old and in poor condition. There are chips in the dry wall and scratches throughout. The art sink cabinets are chipped and in need of painting as well as the cubbies.

  • PHYSICAL, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHING / Play Area, Materials and EquipmentNon-critical

The entire outdoor play area is enclosed and constructed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and ensures that children are free of harm. [CCLR Sec. 16(3)(a)(b)]

Observation. Observed that the sand in the sand pit will require replenishing early/ late spring. Manager said this was part of their seasonal plan. Observed that some of the round cement stepping stones are wobble upon contact. Others are still secure. Manager and I discussed monitoring the stability of the stones and replacing them as required. Manager committed to this plan. There are two rusty screws on the south end of the border on the east side of the sand pit. The screws are tucked between the border and another piece of wood. This hazard was not picked up on the playground inspections. Manager stated they would address this hazard asap. The wood borders surrounding the planter on the north side of the yard require replacement. Manager stated she was aware and has been looking for a contractor to do this work. A storage unit has been placed in front of the worst border to prevent injury.
