  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. -The furnace room was accessible as the lock on the door had not been engaged. -The upstairs portion of the home was accessible as the gate that is meant to be there was not at time of inspection. -The fridge temperature was observed at 6 degrees Celsius. -A murphy bed in the play space was not secured as the latch meant to mitigate risk of pinching and entrapment was not engaged. -A tall shelving unit was not anchored, posing a tipping hazard.

    Corrective action. Ensure a healthy and safe environment is maintained at all times.

  • HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE

    A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed the licensee wearing gloves to help a child with toileting. Following this Licensing observed the licensee wearing the same gloves in the play space. A discussion with the Licensee indicated that they were the same gloves which she used to support a child with toileting indicating that she washed the gloves. LO discussed the appropriate use of disposable gloves and rules of hand hygiene.

    Corrective action. Ensure rules of health and hygiene are established and practiced at all times.

  • NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES

    A licensee must ensure that children are not (c) left unsupervised while consuming food or drink.

    Observation. Upon LO arrival, children were observed coming to the door and then alerting the Manager about Licensing arrival. Upon entering the facility, Licensing noted that children were engaged in meal time including one child sitting in a high chair with food on their tray. The Licensee clarified that they had gone to fetch paper, which was in the next room.

    Corrective action. Ensure children are not left unsupervised while consuming food or drink.

    A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.

    Observation. At the time of inspection, one child was not signed in.

    Corrective action. Ensure accurate daily attendance records are maintained at all times.

    A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards. Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): the ABC mat was a tripping hazard as the corners were turned up, the car map mat the corners are also turned up

    Corrective action. the licensee removed the mat at time of inspection , the licensee will also fix the car mat

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following; - A medium sized shelf in one of the play rooms that is not secured to the wall. - A diaper change mat that is of fabric material and therefore difficult to sanitize effectively after each diaper change. Licensing provided education on the type of diaper changing mat that would be appropriate and would be easily cleaned and sanitized after every use.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

    A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (a) suitable for the age and development of the children.

    Observation. Licensing observed that there is no indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment available, that is suitable for the age and developmentally of school age children. Licensing provided some suggestions on play materials for school age children (eg. games).

    Corrective action. Please ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are suitable for the age and development of the children.

  • EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS

    A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed the following that are accessible to children; - A sharp piece of the metal drainage pipe on the deck in the outdoor play area. The ends of the pipe are sharp. - Two heavy porcelain and cement statues on the deck. The statues are wobbly upon touch. Potential for a child to touch it, have the statues fall on them and injure them. - A small metal flower tray on the table on the deck, with ashes in it. - A pair of dirty adult slippers in the cement area of the outdoor play area. The Manager informed Licensing that they have not had a chance to move some of the items.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the children did not wash their hands after eating snack. Licensing provided education that children should wash hands before and after eating snack especially during the COVID 19 pandemic.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that a program is established that instructs children in and to practice the rules of health and hygiene.

    Observation. Licensing observed that the Manager's name was not displayed anywhere within the community care facility. Education provided.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that both the Licence, and the name of the manager are displayed in a prominent place within the community care facility.

    A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.

    Observation. Upon a random review of three children's records Licensing observed two children's records missing consent to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in the event of an accident or illness. Education provided on what would meet the intent of the regulation.

    Corrective action. Please ensure that children's records are complete prior to the child attending the community care facility.
